Die Bayerische Staatsbibliothek (BSB) (früherer lateinischer Name Bibliotheca Regia Monacensis) in München ist die zentrale Universal- und Landesbibliothek des Freistaats Bayern und eine der bedeutendsten europäischen Forschungs- und Universalbibliotheken mit internationalem Rang. Ihr Medienbestand (einschließlich digitaler Medien) beläuft sich auf rund 36,79 Millionen Medien (Stand: 2021); damit ist sie die größte Universal- und Forschungsbibliothek Deutschlands. Darüber hinaus verfügt sie in ihrem Altbestand über eine der wichtigsten Handschriftensammlungen der Welt, die umfangreichste Sammlung von Inkunabeln in Deutschland, eine der umfangreichsten und wichtigsten Zeitschriftenbibliotheken Europas sowie zahlreiche weitere bedeutende Sondersammlungen, darunter mit knapp 19,24 Millionen Fotos das größte deutsche Bildarchiv in öffentlicher Trägerschaft. Mit ihrem Medienbestand ist die 1558 als Hofbibliothek gegründete Staatsbibliothek heute eine der größten und bedeutendsten Gedächtnisinstitutionen Europas mit 787 Beschäftigten bei 540 Planstellen.

The Bavarian State Library (German: Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, abbreviated BSB, called Bibliotheca Regia Monacensis before 1919) in Munich is the central "Landesbibliothek", i. e. the state library of the Free State of Bavaria, the biggest universal and research library in Germany and one of Europe's most important universal libraries. With its collections currently comprising around 10.89 million books (as of 2019), it ranks among the leading research libraries worldwide. The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek furthermore is Europe's second-largest journals library (after the British Library). Furthermore, its historical holdings encompass one of the most important manuscript collections of the world, the largest collection of incunabula worldwide, as well as numerous further important special collections. Its collection of historical prints before 1850 totals almost one million units.

De Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, vaak eenvoudig BSB genoemd, is een wetenschappelijke bibliotheek te München ontstaan uit de in 1558 gestichte hofbibliotheek van de hertogen van Beieren. Sinds 1919 heeft de bibliotheek de huidige naam. De Bayerische Staatsbibliothek is met 10 miljoen boeken de op een na grootste bibliotheek van Duitsland.
