Η Σταυρωτή είναι ημιορεινό χωριό της Κοζάνης σε υψόμετρο 350 μέτρα. Ήταν γνωστή με το όνομα Χασλάρ ή Χασιλάρ στα χρόνια της τουρκοκρατίας και το 1827 υπήρχαν 20 σπίτια μουσουλμάνων. Μετονομάστηκε σε Σταυρωτή το 1928 με το ΦΕΚ 156Α-08/08/1928. Με την ανταλλαγή των πληθυσμών το 1923, εγκαταστάθηκαν 52 οικογένειες (239 άτομα) προσφύγων από τη Μικρά Ασία.
Το 1688 ιδρύθηκε η Δημοτική Βιβλιοθήκη της Κοζάνης, η οποία θεωρείται ιστορική βιβλιοθήκη όχι μόνο στην Ελλάδα αλλά και στα Βαλκάνια.
