Sharon Lutheran Church and Cemetery is a historic Lutheran church and cemetery located near Ceres, Bland County, Virginia. The church was built in 1883, and is a one-story, frame church, four bays long, with round-arched, stained-glass windows and a gable roof. It features a projecting square tower with a bell-cast pyramidal roof and cross finial on the entrance facade. The adjacent cemetery was established in 1817, and includes a collection of rare Germanic gravestones which are stylistically related to those found in the outlying churches of the Wythe County German settlements.

Junius Marcellus Updyke Farm is a historic home and farm located near Bland, Bland County, Virginia. The house was built about 1910, and is a two-story, three bay, single-pile, I-house, with a two-story rear ell to its rear. It also has a one-story wing and porch. It has a gable roof with pent roofs at the ends and a full-width front porch supported by Ionic order columns. Also on the property are a contributing two-story smokehouse (c. 1910), granary (c. 1910), chicken house (c. 1920), storage shed (c. 1910), barn (c. 1955), and family cemetery.

The Battle of Cove Mountain occurred in Wythe County, Virginia, on May 10, 1864, during the American Civil War. A Union cavalry division commanded by Brigadier General William W. Averell was prevented from attacking a lead mine located near Wytheville. Confederate forces commanded by Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan, with a detachment of a brigade of cavalry from the command of Brigadier General William E. "Grumble" Jones, stopped Averell at Cove Gap, adjacent to Crockett's Cove and Cove Mountain.
