Kinshasa Thermal Power Station, also Kinshasa Plastics Waste–To–Energy Plant, is a planned plastics-fired thermal power plant in the city of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with an estimated population of 15 million inhabitants, as of August 2021. The waste-to-energy power station will, in the first phase, convert 200 tonnes of plastic waste everyday into "3,500 liters (770 imp gal; 925 U.S. gal) of industrial lubricants, 15,000 liters (3,300 imp gal; 3,963 U.S. gal) of diesel fuel, and three metric tonnes of char (solid carbon)" on a daily basis. In addition, it will in the process, generate 96 MWh of energy, on an annual basis. The power generated will be sold to the Congolese electricity utility company Société Nationale d'Électricité (SNEL), for intergradation into the national electricity grid.

The 1996 Air Africa crash occurred on 8 January when an overloaded Zairese Air Africa's Antonov An-32B aircraft, bound for Kahemba Airport, overshot the runway at N'Dolo Airport in Kinshasa, Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo) after failing to take off and ploughed into Kinshasa's Simbazikita street market. Four of the six crew of the aircraft that had been wet leased from Moscow Airways, managed to survive. However, between 225 and 348 fatalities and around 253 serious injuries occurred on the ground. This crash remains the deadliest in African history, and also one with the most ground fatalities of any air disaster in history, superseded only by the intentional crashes of American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 in the September 11 attacks.
George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali, billed as The Rumble in the Jungle, was a heavyweight championship boxing match on October 30, 1974, at the 20th of May Stadium (now the Stade Tata Raphaël) in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo), between undefeated and undisputed heavyweight champion George Foreman and Muhammad Ali. On 4 April 2011, Georgian Airways Flight 834, a Bombardier CRJ-100 passenger jet of Georgian Airways operating a domestic flight from Kisangani to Kinshasa in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) crashed while attempting to land at Kinshasa Airport. The aircraft, which was chartered by the United Nations, was trying to land during a thunderstorm. Of the 33 people on board, only one person survived. It remains as United Nations' deadliest aviation disaster.
Laurent-Désiré Kabila, the incumbent president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was assassinated in his office inside his official residence at the Palais de Marbre, Kinshasa on 16 January 2001. The assassin who killed him was an 18-year-old boy named Rashidi Mizele, who has also been previously identified as Rashidi Kasereka. Mizele was later shot dead. It was believed that some former child soldiers (kadogos) were part of this plan.

The 2002 Africa One Antonov An-26 crash occurred on 26 July 2002 when an Africa One Antonov An-26 (9Q-CMC) faced a rejected takeoff at Kinshasa-N'Djili Airport in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a result of the rejected takeoff, the nose gear and the main gear legs collapsed, and the Aviation Safety Network said "The aircraft was reportedly damaged beyond repair." No deaths or injuries occurred.
The 2007 Africa One Antonov An-26 crash occurred when a twin engine Antonov An-26, belonging to the Congolese air carrier Africa One, crashed and burned shortly after takeoff from N'djili Airport in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo on 4 October 2007. The flight left N'djili at 10:43 local time bound for Tshikapa, a distance of 650 kilometres (400 mi; 350 nmi) to the east.
