Die Johanniskirche ist die älteste Kirche in Mainz, nach dem Trierer Dom die zweitälteste erhaltene Bischofskirche auf deutschem Boden und einziger erhaltener Dombau aus merowingischer, spätkarolingischer und frühottonischer Zeit in Deutschland. Seit ihrer Weihe im Jahr 910 bis zur Weihe des etwas weiter östlich gelegenen Mainzer Doms 1036 war sie die Bischofskirche des Erzbistums Mainz und wurde deshalb später auch als Aldeduom (Alter Dom) bezeichnet. Die Johanniskirche wurde 1828 von der evangelischen Gemeinde übernommen. Patron ist der Heilige Johannes der Täufer.
