Max IV-laboratoriet, tidigare Max-lab, skrivet MAX IV av den egna organisationen, är ett svenskt nationellt laboratorium för acceleratorfysik och forskning med hjälp av synkrotronljus. Det är världens ljusstarkaste synkrotronljusanläggning. Laboratoriet ligger i norra Lund och har Lunds universitet som värduniversitet. Laboratoriet kommer att vara fullt utbyggt 2026 och beräknas då ha upp till 3000 användare årligen från hela världen bland annat inom ämnena fysik, kemi, biologi, medicin och materialvetenskaper. Max-lab startade 1986 och har sedan dess kraftigt expanderat. Öppnandet av den andra acceleratorringen Max II 1996 utgjorde en viktig punkt i laboratoriets historia.
MAX IV is the world's first 4th generation synchrotron light source facility in Lund, Sweden. Its design and planning was carried out within the Swedish national laboratory, MAX-lab, which up until 2015 operated three storage rings for synchrotron radiation research: MAX I (550 MeV, opened 1986), MAX II (1.5 GeV, opened 1997) and MAX III (700 MeV, opened 2008). MAX-lab supported about 1000 users from over 30 countries annually. The facility operated 14 beamlines with a total of 19 independent experimental stations, supporting a wide range of experimental techniques such as macromolecular crystallography, electron spectroscopy, nanolithography and production of tagged photons for photo-nuclear experiments. The facility closed on 13 December (Saint Lucy's Day) 2015 in preparation for MAX IV.
