Tekirdağ (pronounced [teˈciɾdaː]) is a city in Turkey. It is located on the north coast of the Sea of Marmara, in the region of East Thrace. The city forms the urban part of the Süleymanpaşa district, with a population of 186,421 in 2022.
Tekirdağ is een stad in Europees-Turkije en is de hoofdstad van de gelijknamige provincie Tekirdağ. In 2020 had de stad 203.617 inwoners. De stad ligt aan de Zee van Marmara, ongeveer 135 kilometer ten westen van Istanboel. Het is een eeuwenoude stad, en werd al in de tijd van Herodotus genoemd.
Tekirdağ (altgriechisch Ῥαίδεστος Rhaidestos oder Ῥαίδεστον Rhaideston, lateinisch Rhaedestus oder Raedestum, bulgarisch Родосто Rodosto, ungarisch Rodostó; ursprünglich Bisanthe [altgriechisch Βισάνθη]; später auch Rodosçuk, Tekfur Dağı) ist eine 203.617 Einwohner (2020) zählende Hafenstadt am Marmarameer in Ostthrakien und die Hauptstadt der türkischen Provinz Tekirdağ. Nach der Ernennung von Tekirdağ zur Büyükşehir belediyesi (Großstadtgemeinde) wurde der zentrale Landkreis, der das Gebiet der Stadt umfasst, in Süleymanpaşa umbenannt.
