"Las Vegas culture" is the name given to many Archaic settlements which flourished between 8000 BCE and 4600 BCE near the coast of present-day Ecuador. The name comes from the location of the most prominent settlement, Site No. 80, near the Las Vegas River and now within the city of Santa Elena. The Las Vegas culture represents "an early, sedentary adjustment to an ecologically complex coastal environment."
La cultura Las Vegas fue la primera cultura arqueológica conocida que se asentó en los actuales territorios de Ecuador. Se desarrolló entre el holoceno y pleistoceno tardío, en la costa, entre 10.000 a. C. y 4.600 a. C. Existen al menos 31 asentamientos de esta cultura en la península de Santa Elena (provincia de Santa Elena).[1]

Sie ist die früheste Kulturstufe in Ecuador und eröffnet die Präkeramische Periode. Laut Karen Stothert (1985) entstanden ihre Siedlungen als Antwort auf den ökologisch komplex aufgebauten Küstenbereich Ecuadors. So wurden auf der einem tropischen Ökoton angehörenden Santa-Elena-Halbinsel bisher 31 Fundstätten identifiziert. Die Altersangaben sind durch Radiokarbondatierungen abgesichert.
