Baile beag i lár Chontae Mhaigh Eo is ea Maigh Eo, Muigh Eo, nó Maigh Eo na Sacsan (Mayo, Mayo Abbey, nó Mayo of the Saxons as Béarla). Is uaidh a ainmníodh an contae. Bhí mainistir mór sa cheantar uair, agus tá na fothraigh le feiscint fós. Thóg naomh Gael ach a chomhghuallaithe leis as Lindisfarne i dtuaisceart Shasana tar éis easaontais san eaglais, agus is uaidh sin a thugtar Maigh Eo na Sacsan ar an mbaile.
