It was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel around 1825 for Prince Carl of Prussia. Since 1990, Glienicke Palace and the park have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin" because of their unique contribution to Prussian landscape architecture.

Le encargó la reconstrucción de un edificio ya existente al arquitecto Karl Friedrich Schinkel, que hizo lo propio entre ese año y 1827.[1]​ En 1990, la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura lo declaró Patrimonio de la Humanidad como parte de los palacios y parques de Potsdam y Berlín.[3]
