Altındere Millî Parkı, Trabzon'un güneyinde Maçka yakınlarındadır. Bu millî parkın içinde, neredeyse bulutların bile üzerinde yer alan muhteşem Sümela Manastırı bulunur. 270 m yükseklikteki bir uçurum fasadında bulunan manastır en görkemli konuma Trabzon İmparatoru Alexius III. Komnenos döneminde getirilmiştir. III. Alexius'un taç giyme töreni (1349) burada yapılmıştır. Manastırın içinde kütüphane, kilise, rahip odaları, şapel, ayazma ve mutfak bölümleri bulunmaktadır.
