Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary (Q6965495)

Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary also popularly known as Narayan Sarovar Wildlife Sanctuary or Narayan Sarovar Chinkara Sanctuary notified as such in April 1981 and subsequently denotified in 1995 with reduced area, is a unique eco-system near Narayan Sarovar in the Lakhpat taluka of Kutch district in the state of Gujarat, India. The desert forest in this sanctuary is said to be the only one of its kind in India. Located in the arid zone, a part of it is a seasonal wetland. It has 15 threatened wildlife species and has desert vegetation comprising thorn and scrub forests. Its biodiversity has some rare animals and birds, and rare flowering plants. Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has identified it as one of the last remaining habitats of the cheetah in India and a possible reintroduction site for the species. The most sighted animal here is the chinkara (population estimated in the range of 1200–1500), which is currently the flagship species of the sanctuary.

નારાયણ સરોવર અભયારણ્ય ભારતના ગુજરાત રાજ્યના કચ્છ જિલ્લાના લખપત તાલુકામાં હિન્દુઓના યાત્રાધામ નારાયણ સરોવર નજીક આવેલું આવેલું આઇ.યુ.સી.એન. શ્રેણી ૪ (વસવાટ/જાતી પ્રબંધન વિસ્તાર) હેઠળ અને વનવિભાગના અનુસાર અભયારણ્ય શ્રેણી હેઠળ આરક્ષીત છે. અહીં પહોંચવા માટે નજીકનું વિમાન મથક અને રેલ્વે સ્ટેશન ભુજ ખાતે ૧૧૫ કિમી અંતરે અને નજીકનું બસ સ્ટેશન દયાપર ૧૫ કિમી અંતરે આવેલું છે. અહીં મુખ્યત્વે ચિંકારાઓ જોઈ શકાય છે. આ ઉપરાંત બસ્ટાર્ડ (bustard) ની ત્રણે પ્રજાતિ જેમાં ઘોરાડ, Houbara Bustard અને Lesser Florican જોવા મળે છે. રણપ્રદેશનું પક્ષી એવું Black Partridge, ૧૮ પ્રકારની સર્પ પ્રજાતિ અને ૧૮૪ પ્રકારનાં પક્ષીઓ જેમાં ૧૯ પ્રકારનાં raptor પણ અહીં જોવા મળે છે. વનસ્પતિમાં ગોરડ, પીલુ, થોર, ગુગળ, બોરડી અને બાવળ જેવાં ૩ થી ૫ મી. ઊંચા કાંટાળા વૃક્ષો સહીત ૨૫૨ પ્રકારની વનસ્પતિ જોવા મળે છે. આ ઉપરાંત મોટાભાગે ઘાસીયાં મેદાન અને ઝાંખરાઓ આવેલાં છે. આ સરોવર ક્ષેત્રને ૧૯૮૧માં નારાયણ સરોવર અભયારણ્ય ઘોષિત કરવામાં આવ્યું છે. આ અભયારણ્યનું ક્ષેત્રફળ ૪૪૪.૨૩ ચો.મી. છે
