Papakōlea Beach (also known as Green Sand Beach or Mahana Beach) is a green sand beach located near South Point, in the Kaʻū district of the island of Hawaiʻi. It is one of only four green sand beaches in the world, the others being Talofofo Beach, Guam; Punta Cormorant on Floreana Island in the Galapagos Islands; and Hornindalsvatnet, Norway. It gets its distinctive coloring from olivine sand eroded out of the enclosing volcanic cone (tuff ring).
La playa de Papakōlea, también conocida como la playa de Arena Verde (en inglés: Green Sand Beach) o la playa Mahana [1] es una playa de arena verde que se localiza cerca de Ka Lae (en inglés: South Point), en el distrito Kaʻū de la isla de Hawái. Es una de las cuatro playas de arena verde del mundo; las otras tres son: la playa Talofofo, en Guam; Punta Cormorant, en la isla Floreana de las islas Galápagos; y Hornindalsvatnet, en Noruega.[2] Su distintivo color se debe a la arena erosionada de olivino proveniente del cono volcánico (anillo de toba).[3]
