Svitavy (německy Zwittau) jsou město ležící v Pardubickém kraji v okrese Svitavy, 59 km severozápadně od Olomouce. Žije zde přibližně 16 tisíc obyvatel. Jsou součástí Mikroregionu Svitavsko. Svitavy se nacházejí v jihovýchodním výběžku České tabule, známém jako Svitavská pahorkatina, který však už zasahuje do povodí Moravy. Městem protéká řeka Svitava, která pramení v lese nedaleko města. Téměř celé území města leží na severozápadní Moravě, velice malá nezastavěná severovýchodní část území však dříve náležela ke k.ú. Opatovec, tudíž leží v Čechách.

Svitavy (Czech pronunciation: [ˈsvɪtavɪ]; German: Zwittau) is a town in Svitavy District in the Pardubice Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 16,000 inhabitants. It is the birthplace of Oskar Schindler and the centre of the Czech Esperanto movement. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone.
