Loja (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈlo.xa]), formerly Loxa and fully City of the Immaculate Conception of Loja (Spanish: Ciudad de la Inmaculada Concepción de Loja), is the capital of Ecuador's Loja Province. It is located in the Cuxibamba valley in the south of the country, sharing borders with the provinces of Zamora-Chinchipe and other cantons of the province of Loja. Loja holds a rich tradition in the arts, and for this reason is known as the Music and Cultural Capital of Ecuador. The city is home to two major universities.
Loja, también conocida como Inmaculada Concepción de Loja, es una ciudad ecuatoriana; cabecera cantonal del Cantón Loja y capital de la provincia de Loja, así como la urbe más grande y poblada de la misma. Se encuentra atravesada por los ríos Zamora, Malacatos y Jipiro, al sur de la Región interandina del Ecuador, en la hoya del río Zamora, a una altitud de 2060 m s. n. m. y con un clima templado andino de 16,6 °C en promedio.
Loja is de hoofdstad van de provincie Loja en een parochie (parroquia) in Ecuador in het kanton Loja. De stad is gesticht door Alonso de Mercadillo in 1548 en was de eerste stad in het land met stroomvoorziening opgewekt door een waterkrachtcentrale, gebouwd in 1896. Tegenwoordig heeft de stad ongeveer 180.000 inwoners en is gelegen aan de Pan-Amerikaanse Snelweg.

Im urbanen Bereich von Loja lebten beim Zensus 2010 170.280 Einwohner. Loja ist die Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Provinz sowie Verwaltungssitz des gleichnamigen Kantons. Die Höhe von ca. 2380 m Höhe im Andenhochland verleiht dem Ort ein ganzjährig mildes Klima.
