The Kingdom of the East Saxons (Old English: Ēastseaxna rīce; Latin: Regnum Orientalium Saxonum), referred to as the Kingdom of Essex , was one of the seven traditional kingdoms of the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy. It was founded in the 6th century and covered the territory later occupied by the counties of Essex, Middlesex, much of Hertfordshire and (for a short while) west Kent. The last king of Essex was Sigered of Essex, who in 825 ceded the kingdom to Ecgberht, King of Wessex. From 825 Essex was ruled as part of a south-eastern kingdom of Essex, Kent, Sussex and Surrey. It was not until 860 that Essex was fully integrated into the crown of Wessex.

Le royaume d'Essex ou royaume des Saxons de l'Est est un royaume anglo-saxon. Compris entre la Stour au nord et la Tamise au sud, il correspond à l'actuel comté d'Essex, mais s'étend également sur le Middlesex avec la ville de Londres et une partie du Surrey, et il domine brièvement une partie du Kent à son apogée. Néanmoins, durant la majeure partie de son existence, le royaume est plutôt soumis à ses voisins plus puissants, qu'il s'agisse du Kent, de l'Est-Anglie ou de la Mercie. Il disparaît en 825, lorsque le Sud-Est de l'Angleterre se soumet à Ecgberht de Wessex.
