Chalakudy (Malayalam: [tʃaːlɐkːuɖi]) is a municipal town situated on the banks of Chalakudy River in Thrissur district of the Kerala state in India. It is the headquarters of Chalakudy taluk. It is the base camp for travellers to Athirappilly Falls and Vazhachal Falls. Chalakudy lies on National Highway 544 and located about 47 km (23 mi) north of the city of Kochi, and 30 km (19 mi) south of Thrissur.

Kallettumkara is a village which is the epi-centre town of Aloor Panchayat and is in Thrissur district in the state of Kerala. Kaletumkara is the Western border of newly formed Chalakudy Taluk although it elects it Legislative Assembly Candidate from Irinjalakuda Constituency, India. Kalletumkara is popular as the place where Irinjalakuda Railway Station is located and is 8 km (5.0 mi) away from the Irinjalakuda Town. There is an interesting story behind how this place got this special name. A river called 'Kallar' (കല്ലാറ്) used to flow through the said land. The land on the banks (kara) (കര) of the river Kallar came to be known as 'Kallarin kara' (കല്ലാറിൻ കര). In Malayalam, the word 'Aar' (ആറ്) has a synonym 'Aatt' (ആറ്റ്). Hence the place was also known as 'Kallatin Kara' (കല്ലാറ്റിൻ കര). Later, the name evolved into 'Kallettinkara' (കല്ലേറ്റിൻക്കര) and later 'Kallettumkara' (കല്ലേറ്റുംക്കര). Later, due to an earthquake, the river changed its course. And there is no river flowing through Kallettumkara presently. This is the story behind the name of the place as said by the localites.

Peringalkuthu Dam is a concrete dam built across the Chalakkudi River in the Thrissur district, Kerala state of India. It also contains the Peringalkuthu Hydro Electric Power Project of Kerala State Electricity Board, who owns the dam. This is the first hydroelectric power project to be built on the Chalakkudi River. The gross storage capacity of the dam is 32 million cubic meters (1.13 tmc ft). The dam is situated in a deep forest, and special permission is needed to visit the dam.

Charpa Falls is a waterfall located in Athirappilly panchayath in Thrissur district of Kerala. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River, this waterfall lies in between the more famous Athirappilly Falls and Vazhachal Falls. It is a popular stopover for tourists who are visiting the Athirappilly and Vazhachal Falls. Chimmini is the largest dam of Thrissur district. The Chimminy Wild Life Sanctuary is located close to the dam. തൃശ്ശൂർ ജില്ലയിൽ കൊടകര പഞ്ചായത്തിൽ കൊടകര പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്നും അരകിലോമീറ്റർ വടക്ക് ഭാഗത്താണ് പൂനിലാർകാവ് ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മുഖ്യ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ പരബ്രഹ്മശക്തിയായ "ദുർഗ്ഗാഭഗവതി" ആണ്. മാതൃഭാവമായ ‘വനദുർഗ്ഗ’ സങ്കൽപ്പത്തിൽ കിഴക്ക് ദർശനം. 108 ദുർഗ്ഗാലയങ്ങളിൽ വച്ച് പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ‘പൂണൂലിയമ്മ’ എന്ന നാമവും ഈ മഹാദേവിയ്ക്ക് ഉണ്ട്. പ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനം ഇടവമാസത്തിൽ മകയിരം നക്ഷത്രം ആണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് 2000 വർഷത്തെ പഴക്കമുണ്ട് എന്നാണ് പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്.
കേരളത്തിലെ സുപ്രസിദ്ധമായ സർപ്പാരാധനാകേന്ദ്രമാണ് പാമ്പു മേക്കാട്ടുമന. കേരളത്തിൽ തൃശൂർ ജില്ലയിൽ മുകുന്ദപുരം താലുക്കിൽ വടമ വില്ലേജിലാണ് പാമ്പു മേക്കാട്ട് ഇല്ലം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങൾ നിറഞ്ഞ ‘പാമ്പു മേക്കാട്’ ഒരു കാലത്ത് ‘മേക്കാട്’ മാത്രമായിരുന്നു. മേക്കാട്ടുമനയിൽ സർപ്പാരാധന ആരംഭിച്ചതോടെയാണ് പാമ്പു മേക്കാട് എന്നറിയപ്പെടാൻ തുടങ്ങിയത്. ഇവിടുത്തെ സർപ്പാരാധനയുടെ തുടക്കത്തെപറ്റി വ്യക്തമായ ചരിത്രരേഖകളൊന്നുമില്ല. ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങളെയും പുരാവൃത്തങ്ങളേയും ആശ്രയിക്കുകയേ നിവൃത്തിയുള്ളു.
