The West Yellowstone Oregon Shortline Terminus Historic District is a historic district in West Yellowstone, Montana that is ten acres in size and includes 16 structures and buildings. The historic district was built around the terminus of a spur of the Oregon Short Line Railroad, which ran from Idaho Falls, Idaho to West Yellowstone. The completion of the terminus in 1907 in the remote forested area near the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park initiated the planning and development of the town of West Yellowstone, and many of the structures associated with the historical district were built in this time period. The town prospered with the influx of tourism brought by the new railroad line. Seeing the revenue generated from serving tourists passing through West Yellowstone on their way to the nearby national park, the Union Pacific Railroad Company expanded its facilities to include restaurants and lodgings. These buildings, built between 1910 and 1926, are also included in the historic site description. Union Pacific's depot, baggage building, dining lodge, dormitories, and boiler building were designed by noted American architect Gilbert Stanley Underwood. The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 13, 1983.

The city of Three Forks is named so because it lies geographically near the point, in nearby Missouri Headwaters State Park, where the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin rivers converge to form the Missouri River — the longest single river in North America, as well as the major portion of the Missouri–Mississippi River System from the headwaters near Three Forks to its discharge into the Gulf of Mexico. Three Forks is part of the Bozeman, MT Micropolitan Statistical Area of approximately 100,000 people and located thirty miles west of Bozeman.

Montana State University (MSU) is a public land-grant research university in Bozeman, Montana, United States. It enrolls more students than any other college or university in the state. MSU offers baccalaureate degrees in 60 fields, master's degrees in 68, and doctoral degrees in 35 through its nine colleges. More than 16,700 students attended MSU in fall 2019, taught by 796 full-time and 547 part-time faculty. In the Carnegie Classification, MSU is placed among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity", one of only two universities in Montana to receive this distinction with a "very high undergraduate" enrollment profile. Madison Buffalo Jump State Park is a Montana state park located seven miles south of the Interstate 90 interchange at Logan in Gallatin County, Montana in the United States. The park preserves a canyon cliff used by Native Americans as a buffalo jump, where herds of bison were stampeded over the cliff as an efficient means of slaughter. The main geographic features of the jump site remain largely unchanged since the days of the jumps. Archaeologists have found tons of bison bones buried at the base of the cliffs. They have also uncovered the remains of tipi villages.

It is the flagship library for all of the Montana State University System's campuses. In 1978, the library was named the Roland R. Renne Library to honor the sixth president of the university. Bozeman Depot is a former train station in Bozeman, Montana, opened in 1883 by the Northern Pacific Railway. The current brick station house was built in 1892 and expanded in 1924.
