Nueces County ( new-AY-siss) is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2010 census, the population was 340,223. The county seat is Corpus Christi. The county was formed in 1846 from portions of San Patricio County and organized the following year. It is named for the Nueces River, which flows through the county.

The island takes its name from wild mustangs that roamed the island which eventually succumbed to ranching in the late 1800s.

Mustang Island is a barrier island on the Gulf Coast of Texas in the United States. The island is 18 miles (29 km) long, stretching from Corpus Christi to Port Aransas. The island is oriented generally northeast-southwest, with the Gulf of Mexico on the east and south, and Corpus Christi Bay on the north and west. The island's southern end connects by roadway to Padre Island. At the northern end of the island is Port Aransas, beyond which is San José Island. The Aransas Channel, also known as the "Aransas Pass," which separates Mustang Island from San José Island, is protected by jetties extending into the Gulf from each island.
Old Bayview Cemetery is a cemetery located on a small hill in downtown Corpus Christi, Texas at West Broadway and Waco streets, bordered by the I-37 access road. It is the oldest federal military cemetery in Texas. The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History is a science and history museum in Corpus Christi, Texas, near Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge and the waterfront. It was established in 1957. Among its many displays covering an area of over 40,000 square feet are many artifacts found in the wreck of the Spanish ship San Estaban, including the world's oldest mariner's astrolabe with a confirmed date of 1554. An extension to the museum opened in May 1990 to house the Shipwreck! exhibition.
Pelican Island is a semi-tropical island in the Corpus Christi Bay, situated immediately south of the Corpus Christi Ship Channel. It is one of the largest habitats of both Brown- and White pelicans in the State of Texas. In the late 1980s, Pelican Island was the only location in all of Texas where you could find nesting Brown pelicans.
