Augusta County is a county in the Shenandoah Valley on the western edge of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the United States. The second-largest county of Virginia by total area, it completely surrounds the independent cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. Its county seat is Staunton, but most of the administrative services have offices in neighboring Verona.

Augusta Health, formerly Augusta Medical Center, is a hospital in Fishersville, Virginia. It serves Augusta County, Virginia, as well as the cities of Staunton and Waynesboro. It is located near I-64. Augusta Medical Center was formed in 1994 as a consolidation of Kings Daughters Hospital in Staunton, and Waynesboro Community Hospital in Waynesboro. Augusta Medical Center changed its name to Augusta Health in June 2009.The campus went tobacco-free in 2009. Augusta Health has a member only gym. It provides cardio, weight lifting, inside and outside tennis courts, basketball, track, pool, and spa for its members. Many classes are offered including wellness and fitness programs. In March 2013 it opened a new $32 million cardiovascular center which is a 67,000-square-foot facility offering nuclear stress-testing machines and two heart catheterization labs. The hospital completed an expansion of its emergency department in November 2019, with major donations of around $2.13 million.

Augusta Stone Church is a Presbyterian (PCUSA) place of worship located in Augusta County in the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA in the unincorporated community of Fort Defiance. The church was one of two meeting houses established by The Congregation of the Triple Forks of the Shenandoah in the year 1740. Augusta Stone and the sister meeting house Tinkling Spring were both served by the Rev. John Craig. The final structure which was completed in 1749 is still in use and holds the distinction of being the oldest Presbyterian Church in continuous use in Virginia.

Elliott Knob is one of the highest mountains in the northern portions of the U.S. state of Virginia. At 4,463 ft (1,360 m), the peak is located on the ridge known as Great North Mountain. A subpeak known simply as "Hogback" (4,447 ft (1,355 m)) is located 0.5 mi (0.80 km) to the southwest. A small, naturally growing stand of red spruce trees is on the summit, and the upper slopes also have yellow birch and sugar maple, indicating that the altitude is just high enough to support tree species normally found hundreds of miles to the north. Otherwise oak and hickory trees are the most common types found on the mountain. The mountain is entirely within George Washington and Jefferson National Forests.

Newport is an unincorporated community in Augusta County, Virginia, United States. Newport is located on Virginia State Route 252, 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Craigsville.
Piedmont is an unincorporated community in Augusta County, Virginia, United States. Piedmont is located 10.4 miles (16.7 km) northeast of Staunton and 10.1 miles (16.3 km) north-northwest of Waynesboro. During the American Civil War, the Battle of Piedmont between Union forces under Maj. Gen. David Hunter and Confederate forces under William E. Jones was fought on June 5, 1864 just north of Piedmont. During the battle, Jones was killed and Hunter's forces captured nearly 1,000 Confederate prisoners. The Confederate defeat near Piedmont allowed Hunter to easily occupy Staunton the next day, and threatened the Confederacy's security in the Shenandoah Valley as well as on other fronts, since it necessitated the need to detach Early's Second Corps from the main body of the Army of Northern Virginia near Petersburg, Virginia.
Ramsey's Draft Wilderness is a designated wilderness area in the North River Ranger District of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests of Virginia in the United States. Riverheads High School is a public school located in Augusta County, Virginia. Riverheads is the home of the Gladiators. Riverhead High School was built in 1962 to accommodate 600 students. Located at Routes 11 and 701, ten miles south of Staunton, it is one of five high schools serving Augusta County. A six-classroom wing was added in 1976 to provide for increased enrollment and additional course offerings. An eight-million dollar program, completed in 1997, provided renovation with improved and expanded instructional, athletic, and support facilities. Riverheads is nestled in a historic area. In the vicinity are the Hessian House, McCormick’s Grist Mill, and Old Providence Church. Nearby three major highways converge: I-81, U.S. 11, and Route 340. Students are transported by buses covering an area which extend eighteen miles at certain points. Forming the school community are areas such as Moffatts Creek, McKinley, Newport, Vesuvius, Mint Spring, Middlebrook, Greenville, Spottswood, Lofton, White Hill, Jollivue, and the southern sections of both the Stuarts Draft area and the Beverley Manor District. Membership in recent times has varied from a high of 729 (with an eighth grade) in 1978-79 to 420 in 1991-92 (with no eighth grade). Many parents are employed in agriculture, industry-labor trade, and services. A majority are high school graduates and about one-fourth have education beyond high school. The student body is stable; about 90 percent of the senior class have been at Riverheads all their high school experience. Academically, the students compare well with other students in the nation on achievement tests, scoring above the norms for the South in SAT scores. Over half of the senior class typically continue their education beyond high school. The school is accredited by the State Board of Education and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 2015, Riverheads High School was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Only seven schools in Virginia were awarded this prestigious title in 2015. While the community is a growing industrial area, agriculture remains important to the school community. Varied cultural and recreational opportunities, good medical services, including those for the disabled and mentally or emotionally disturbed, community employment and guidance services, varied transportation and communication services, many churches and service clubs to meet the religious and civic needs, and several educational facilities for advanced or specialized training are all available nearby.
Saint Mary's Wilderness is a U.S. Wilderness Area in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. The wilderness area is located next to the Blue Ridge Parkway near the Parkway's northern terminus and consists of 9,826 acres (39.76 km2). Saint Mary's Wilderness is the largest Virginia Wilderness on national forest land. Saint Mary's Wilderness ranges in elevation from about 1,780 feet (543 m) to 3,640 feet (1,109 m). The area has about 14 miles (23 km) of hiking trails within or near its boundaries.

Staunton Mall was a shopping mall in Staunton, Virginia, United States. Opened in 1968 as Staunton Plaza, it originally featured JCPenney, Montgomery Ward, Woolworth, and Safeway as its major stores. An expansion plan between 1985 and 1987 enclosed the formerly open-air property while adding Leggett (now Belk) as a third department store and renaming the property to Staunton Mall. The mall underwent a number of anchor store changes throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s: Safeway became an outlet store for Sears, then Goody's and Gold's Gym, while Woolworth was converted to Stone & Thomas and then to Peebles, and Montgomery Ward became Steve & Barry's. The mall lost many inline stores throughout the 21st century, and passed through several owners before closing on January 1, 2021.

The Wild Oak Trail is a 27.0-mile (43.5 km) National Recreation Trail located in the Ridge-and-Valley Appalachians in Central Virginia, United States. It is part of George Washington National Forest. Glebe Burying Ground, also known as Glebe Cemetery, is a historic cemetery located near Swoope, Augusta County, Virginia. It is one of the oldest cemeteries in Augusta County and contains a wide variety of stones illustrating the evolution of local funerary art from the 1770s through the 19th century. The surviving stones date from 1770 to 1891. They reflect changes in the local funerary art of Scotch-Irish, English, and German settlers and their descendants.

Mt. Sidney Historic District is a national historic district located at Mount Sidney, Augusta County, Virginia. It encompasses 74 contributing buildings and 16 contributing sites in the rural village of Mount Sidney. The oldest buildings date to the 1820s and are located along the west side of the main street. Notable buildings include the Markwood House (1834), Moorman House (1835), James Ross House (c. 1840), Hyde Tavern (c. 1852), Mt. Sidney Methodist Church and Cemetery (1850), and Mt. Sidney African Methodist Episcopal Church and cemetery (1802, 1865-1875).
Mt. Sidney School is a historic public school building located at Mount Sidney, Augusta County, Virginia. the original portion was built in 1912, and is the front gable-roofed, two-story block with an I-house plan consisting of two rooms and a central hallway on each floor. It features a central cross gable, one-story, three-bay porch. A four-room brick addition was built in 1921 and a gymnasium added in 1935. The school closed in 1967, and was subsequently remodeled into apartments.
North River High School was a historic public school building located at Moscow, Augusta County, Virginia. Built in 1930, it was a brick building consisting of an auditorium/gymnasium as the core of the building with rectangular gabled blocks on either side containing two rooms with the projecting gable ends. It had a steeply pitched gable roof and entrance portico reflecting the Colonial Revival style. Additions were made to the building in 1942 and 1950. Also on the property was a contributing brick agriculture building.
