León (Spanish pronunciation: [leˈon]) is a department in Nicaragua. It covers an area of 5,138 km2 and has a population of 423,012 (2021 estimate). The capital is the city of León.
La iglesia de La Recolección es una rectoría católica ubicada en el centro histórico de la ciudad de León. Se encuentra en el barrio El Sagrario y es parte del territorio parroquial de la Santa Iglesia Catedral. Fue fundada como el Oratorio de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores por los padres recolectos del Oratorio de San Felipe Neri. La primera piedra se colocó en 1786 y fue consagrada en 1788. Actualmente la regentan los padres paulinos.
Das Centro de Arte Fundación Ortiz Gurdian ist ein Kunstmuseum im Stadtzentrum von León (Nicaragua). Die Ausstellungsteile wurden zwischen 2000 und 2013 eröffnet.
La Parroquia de San Felipe Apóstol es una iglesia ubicada en el barrio homónimo al norte de la ciudad de León. Fue fundada como una ermita para el pueblo de San Felipe de Austria, nombrado en honor del rey de aquel entonces, y destinado para mulatos, negros libres e indios. Fue erigida como parroquia en 1872, siendo su primer párroco el Muy Ilustre Sr. Canónigo Don Gordiano Carranza, que es muy recordado por los pobladores de San Felipe. El edificio actual fue construido por el padre Carranza a mediados del siglo XIX.
Las Pilas (or El Hoyo) is a complex volcano located in the western part of Nicaragua. Part of a 30-km-long volcanic massif, Las Pilas has a series of well-preserved flank vents surrounding a central cone. Las Pilas last erupted in the 1950s and before that possibly in the 16th century.
The Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary, also known as the "Royal and Renowned Basilica Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary" (Spanish: Real e Insigne Basílica de la Asunción de la Bienaventurada Virgen María), is a significantly important and historic landmark in León, Nicaragua. The cathedral was awarded World Heritage Site status with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The site's nomination is Nicaragua's third cultural landmark, following the ruins of León Viejo and El Güegüense.

Juan Venado Island Natural Reserve is a nature reserve in Nicaragua. It is one of the 78 reserves that are under official protection in the country. The reserve is home to a wide variety of different species including sea turtles, crocodiles and caimans.
Las Peñitas is a fishing village and tourist beach community on the North Western coast of Nicaragua. It lies within the León, Nicaragua municipality and the department of León and is next to Poneloya, Nicaragua. It is becoming a more and more popular tourist destination and has recently (2009) received a new road courtesy of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, a U.S. foreign aid agency created by the U.S. Congress in 2004 to disburse the war reparation settlement won by Nicaragua at the World Court in the Hague. There are many hotel beach bars catering to backpackers, surfers, foreign aid project workers, religious groups, and expats. Next to Las Peñitas is the Juan Venado Island Natural Reserve, popular with visitors for the wildlife and turtle migrations.
El Museo de Tradiciones y Leyendas (English: the Museum of Traditions and Legends) is located in León, Nicaragua. The museum building was once the infamous XXI prison where, from 1921 to 1979, many prisoners were tortured. Today, the prison cells depict Nicaraguan traditions and legends through puppet illustration, while wall paintings portray how tortured prisoners suffered.
León Airport (Spanish: Pista Aérea Fanor Urroz) (ICAO: MNLN) is an airport serving León, the capital of the León Department of Nicaragua. The airport is on the southwest side of the city.
Santuario Diocesano Nuestra Señora de la Merced es una iglesia de estilo barroco colonial tardío y muestras de estilo neoclásico en su fachada, dedicado a la Bienaventurada Virgen María en la advocación de Nuestra Señora de La Merced, patrona de la ciudad de Santiago de los Caballeros de León en Nicaragua.[2]
