The 2021 census reported a population of 7,499 inhabitants for the municipal unit, and 3,169 for the town. A local attraction is the cave at the source of the Angitis River, located at the village of Angitis in the community of Kokkinogeia.

It has traditionally had a Bulgarian Muslim, or Pomak citizenry, like the rest of the Chech geographic region. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Drama, of which it is a municipal unit. It lies in the Rhodope Mountains region along the Bulgarian border in the northern part of the Drama regional unit between Kato Nevrokopi and Paranesti. Its land area is 351.273 km2 (135.627 sq mi).

Ο Δήμος Προσοτσάνης του προγράμματος Καποδίστριας ήταν ένας δήμος του νομού Δράμας ο οποίος δημιουργήθηκε στις 20/01/1946, με αναγνώριση της Κοινότητας Προσοτσάνης σε Δήμο. Ο Δήμος με τη μορφή αυτή διατηρήθηκε μέχρι το 2010 οπότε προέκυψε ο νέος Δήμος Προσοτσάνης με συγχωνεύσεις άλλων δήμων του προγράμματος Καλλικράτης.

The Thisavros Dam (Greek: Φράγμα Θησαυρού) is a rock-fill dam on the Nestos River in the regional unit of Drama in the northeastern portion of Greece. it is 21 kilometres (13 mi) north of Nikiforos and 21 kilometres (13 mi) northeast of the town of Drama. The 172-metre (564 ft) high dam is the tallest in Greece. It was constructed between 1986 and 1996. The purpose of the dam is irrigation and hydroelectric power production. Its reservoirs helps irrigate 80,937 hectares (200,000 acres) and its power station has an installed capacity of 384 megawatts (515,000 hp). The power station is a pumped-storage type which allows it to not only generate power but the turbines can reverse and pump water back into the reservoir. Power generation occurs during periods of high demand and pumping during those of low demand such as at night.
Kato Nevrokopi (Greek: Κάτω Νευροκόπι, romanized: Káto Nevrokópi "Lower Nevrokopi") is a municipality and town within that municipality in the northwest section of the Drama regional unit, Greece. Before the 2011 local government reform, it was the largest municipality in all of Greece, covering an area of 873.552 km2 (337.28 sq mi). The 2021 census reported a population of 5,323 inhabitants. The region is known for the very low temperatures during the winter and for its famous agricultural products such as potatoes and beans. The area has several features to attract tourists: the ski center of Falakro, the traditional settlement in the village of Granitis (pop. 55), the historical bunker of Lise, the artificial lakes of Lefkogeia and Potamoí, the spectacular routes in the forests, the old churches. The forest paths offer excellent views to hikers. The largest towns are Kato Nevrokopi (the municipal seat, pop. 1,855), Volakas (783), Perithorio (569), Lefkogeia (321), Ochyro (314), Kato Vrontou (287) and Vathytopos (255). On the territory of the municipality are located several abandoned villages, including Monastiri and Mavrochori.

The seat of the municipality was in Fotolivos.
Falakro Oros (Greek: Φαλακρό όρος, translated in English as "Bald mountain"; Bulgarian: Боздаг, Bozdag; Turkish: Bozdağ, translated in English as "Gray mountain") is a mountain in the Drama regional unit, in eastern Greek Macedonia, northern Greece. The elevation of its highest summit, Profitis Ilias, is 2,232 metres above sea level. There is a ski resort on the mountain.
Kalampaki (Greek: Καλαμπάκι, formerly Καλαμπάκιον) is a village and a former municipality in the Drama regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Doxato, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 81.064 km2. It is 12 km to the south of Drama. The Kalambaki municipal unit consists of the villages of Kalampaki, Ftelia, Agia Paraskevi, Kalamonas and Nerofraktis. Most of the population is employed in the agricultural sector, with tobacco, corn and cotton being the main products.
Potamoi (Greek: Ποταμοί), until 1927 known as Borovo (Greek: Μπόροβο, Bulgarian: Борово), is a village in the Drama regional unit, Greece. It is situated in the Chech region, at the mouth of the river Dospat on the left shore of the river Nestos.

Since the 2011 local government reform, it has been a municipal unit of the municipality of Paranesti. The municipal unit has an area of 240.998 km2. The 2021 census reported a population of 1,849 inhabitants in the municipal unit and 240 in the community.

The Archaeological Museum of Drama is in the city of Drama in East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. It was built by the Municipality of Drama and inaugurated on 12 December 1999.
The Folklore Museum of Drama (Greek: Λαογραφικό Μουσείο Δράμας) located in Drama in northern Greece was launched by the Lyceum Club of Greek Women in recent years. It is a project to classify and display its considerable collection of costumes and artifacts of the folk culture of Drama and the wider area. It has devoted a large part of its new, privately owned premises (three floors) to an exhibition of the collection.
Ftelia is a village in the Drama regional unit, in northeastern Greece. Its population is 612 (2021 census). Ftelia means "elm tree" in Greek. The village is situated 9 km to the south of the city of Drama in Macedonia, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit of Kalampaki. Many of the village's residents are descendants of Greeks who fled from the Northern Thrace region of Bulgaria during the Balkan Wars.

„Свети Николай“ (на гръцки: Αγίου Νικολάου) е възрожденска църква в зърневското село Куманич (Дасото), Гърция, част от Зъхненската и Неврокопска епархия. Църквата е гробищен храм и е построена в 1831 година. Представлява еднокорабен храм с полукръгла апсида и размери 15 на 6,25 m. В 1950 година е предприет мащабен ремонт на храма, при който нартексът е включен в наоса. В интериора е запазен оригиналният дървен иконостас с ценни икони от 1831 година. Ктиторският надпис гласи:
„Св. св. Теодор Тирон и Теодор Стратилат и Свети Йоан Богослов“ или „Свети Тодор“ (на гръцки: Αγίων Θεοδώρων και Αγίου Ιωάννου του Θεολόγου) е българска възрожденска църква в село Долно Броди (Като Вронду), Гърция, част от Зъхненската и Неврокопска епархия. Църквата е построена в 1835 година на малък хълм в северния край на селото, край селските гробища. В архитектурно отношение представлява класическата за XIX век трикорабна базилика с женска църква и трем от западната и част от южната страна. Размерите на храма са 18 на 11,80 m. Годината на изграждане е изписана на плоча, вградена в югоизточния ъгъл, а на източната стена има керамичен надпис със същата година. В интериора църквата има орнаментирани тавани, изключителен резбован само в частта на средния кораб иконостас и колоритно оцветена ограда на женската църква. Иконите в храма датират от 1839 и 1863 година.

It is the administrative center of the Karantere forest. The settlement, which became part of the community of Sidironero in 1927, was dissolved in 1940.

The Sadirvan Mosque (Greek: Σαντιρβάν Τζαμί, from Turkish: Şadırvan Camii, lit. 'mosque of the fountain') is a former mosque in the town of Drama, in the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace region of northern Greece. Built in the 15th century during the Ottoman era, the mosque was abandoned in the 1920s, following the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey which saw the exodus of the Muslim community of Drama. The building was subsequently repurposed for profane use and then neglected for decades. During the late 2010s, the structure was restored and renovated and repurposed for municipal exhibition center for historical and cultural events. It is one of the four surviving mosques in Drama, that are no longer used for worship.

Η Καπναποθήκη Σπήρερ ή Αυστροελληνική είναι πρώην καπναποθήκη που βρίσκεται στη Δράμα, η οποία πλέον στεγάζει ξενοδοχείο. Το κτίριο σχεδιάστηκε από τον Κόνραντ Γιάκομπ Γιόσεφ φον Βίλας για λογαριασμό της εταιρείας καπνών Σπήρερ και ολοκληρώθηκε το 1925. Το κτίριο ήταν αρχικά χώρος επεξεργασίας του καπνού μέχρι το 1974, οπότε και έγινε καπναποθήκη. Από το 1932 πέρασε στην κατοχή της Αυστροελληνικής Εταιρείας Καπνών. Το 2004 άρχισαν οι μελέτες ώστε να μετατραπεί σε ξενοδοχείο. Οι εργασίες ολοκληρώθηκαν και το ξενοδοχείο άρχισε να λειτουργεί το 2016.

Η Λίμνη Λευκογείων είναι τεχνητή λίμνη που βρίσκεται στα βορειοδυτικά της Δράμας πολύ κοντά στο χωριό Λευκόγεια. Δημιουργήθηκε έπειτα από κατασκευή φράγματος με σκοπό την συγκράτηση των νερών των ρεμάτων Μυλόρεμα και Κρυονέρι που πλημμύριζαν το οροπέδιο, αλλά και για τις ανάγκες ύδρευσης του οροπεδίου. Το φράγμα της που είναι φτιαγμένο από χώμα έχει μήκος 320 μέτρα. Η επιφάνεια της λίμνης είναι περί τα 900 στρέμματα, ο ωφέλιμος όγκος φτάνει τα 13.000.000 κ.μ. και η περίμετρος της καλύπτει μια έκταση 8,25 χλμ. Στις βόρειες όχθες δημιουργούνται υγρολίβαδα, ενώ ιδιαίτερο χαρακτηριστικό της λίμνης είναι τα μικρά φιόρδ και η δαντελωτή μορφολογία της ακτής.

Completed in the 1870s, during the Ottoman-era, the mosque was neglected for almost a century. As of November 2022, restorations commenced.
Снежницата или Карлянка (изписване до 1945 година: Снѣжница, на гръцки: Χιονότρυπα Φαλακρού, Хионотрипа Фалакру) е пропастна пещера в планината Боздаг (Фалакро), Драмско, Гърция. Дълбочината на пещерата е 111 m, температурата никога не надвишава 1°C и в нея винаги има сняг.
