It includes Bainbridge's original courthouse square, now Willis Park, and 56 contributing buildings in a 10-acre (4.0 ha) area roughly bounded by Water, Clark, Troupe, West, Broughton, & Crawford streets. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987.

The City Hall and Firehouse, built in 1914, is an historic city hall and fire station building located on the corner of Crawford and Water streets in Bainbridge, Georgia. It was designed by Atlanta-based architect William Augustus Edwards who designed nine South Carolina courthouses as well as academic buildings at twelve institutions in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. It is a contributing property in the Bainbridge Commercial Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places on 6 November 1987.

Bainbridge State College was a public college in Bainbridge, Georgia. It was part of the University System of Georgia which was merged it into Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in 2017. The college's campus was located on 173 acres (0.70 km2) of land just inside the Bainbridge city limits on U.S. Highway 84 East. A separate campus in Blakely, Georgia was Bainbridge College Early County (which was built in 1999 as Albany Technical College. The Early County Satellite Center was bought by Bainbridge College in 2006). There was also a campus in Donalsonville, Georgia that opened in 2016.

The Curry Hill Plantation near Bainbridge, Georgia is a plantation begun in 1842 by Duncan Curry. It was several thousand acres in size, and was a stage coach stop on the stage coach line between Thomasville and Bainbridge. The Curry family lived in a log house at first, then in the 1850s lived in the former stage coach house while the main plantation house which stands today was built. The main house was built in the 1850s and includes Greek Revival elements.
