Municipal Unit of Diakopto

The Vouraikos (Greek: Βουραϊκός, Latin: Buraïcus, Erasinus (Ancient Greek: Ἐρασῖνος, romanized: Erasinos) according to Strabo) is a river in Achaea, Greece. In ancient times it was called Erasinos. Its source is in the Aroania mountains, near the village of Priolithos. It flows past the towns of Kalavryta and Diakopto, and flows into the Gulf of Corinth near Diakopto. It is 37.5 km (23.3 mi) long. The name is derived from Boura, a mythological daughter of Ion and Helice who was beloved by Hercules, who according to legend opened the gorge in order to get close to her. This is the Vouraikos gorge, which has a length of about 20 km. In the gorge the river passes along dense vegetation and steep cliffs, waterfalls and caves. The Diakofto–Kalavryta Railway passes through the Vouraikos gorge.

Aigialeia (Greek: Αιγιάλεια, pronounced [eˈʝalia]) is a municipality and a former province (επαρχία) in the eastern part of the Achaea regional unit, Greece. The seat of the municipality is the town Aigio. The municipality has an area of 723.063 km². The main towns are Aigio, Akrata and Diakopto. The municipality Aigialeia stretches from the south coast of the Gulf of Corinth to the mountainous interior of the Peloponnese peninsula. The main rivers of the municipality are the Selinountas and the Vouraikos.

Bura (also Boura, Bira; Ancient Greek: Βοῦρα) was an ancient polis (city-state) of Achaea, Greece, one of the 12 cities of the Achaean League.

Ceryneia or Keryneia (Ancient Greek: Κερύνεια, also Cerynia or Kerynia (Κερυνία), Ceraunia or Keraunia (Κεραυνία), Cerauneia or Kerauneia (Κεραύνεια), Caryneia or Karyneia (Καρύνεια), was a town and polis (city-state) of ancient Achaea. It was not originally one of the 12 Achaean cities, though it afterwards became so, succeeding to the place of Aegae. Its population was increased by a large body of Mycenaeans, when the latter abandoned their city to the Argives in 468 BCE. Ceryneia is mentioned as a member of the Achaean League on its revival in c. 280 BCE; and one of its citizens, Marcus, was chosen in 255 BCE as the first sole General of the League. In the time of Strabo, Ceryneia was dependent upon Aegium. It was situated inland upon a lofty height, west of the river Cerynites (Bokhusia), and a little south of Helice. Theophrastus stated that the wine of Ceryneia produced abortion.

Ο Κερυνίτης είναι ποταμός της Αχαΐας, ο οποίος πηγάζει από διακλαδώσεις του όρους Κερύνεια, και συγκεκριμένα από την περιοχή μεταξύ των χωριών Πλατανιώτισσα (Κλαπατσούνα) και Κερπινή του σημερινού δήμου Καλαβρύτων. Χύνεται στον Κορινθιακό κόλπο νοτιοανατολικά του Αιγίου. Είναι γνωστός επίσης με το όνομα Μπουφούσκια, ονομασία που οφείλεται στον ομώνυμο οικισμό από τον οποίο περνάει, λίγο πριν την έξοδό του στην πεδιάδα του Αιγίου. Στην θέση αυτή σχηματίζει ανοιχτό φαράγγι με ιδιαίτερα πλούσια ορνιθοπανίδα, που σύμφωνα με έρευνα του Εθνικού Μετσοβίου Πολυτεχνείου χρήζει άμεσης προστασίας ως τοπίο ιδιαίτερου φυσικού κάλλους.

Ο Δήμος Τανάγρας του προγράμματος Καποδίστριας ήταν δήμος που λειτούργησε την περίοδο 1999-2010. Συστάθηκε με το πρόγραμμα Καποδίστριας από τη συνένωση των παλαιότερων κοινοτήτων της περιοχής, που αποτέλεσαν στη συνέχεια τα δημοτικά διαμερίσματα του δήμου. Το 2010 καταργήθηκε και εντάχθηκε στον νέο διευρυμένο δήμο Τανάγρας. Ο δήμος Τανάγρας είχε (πραγματικό) πληθυσμό 4.134 κατοίκους. Περιλάμβανε 4 δημοτικά διαμερίσματα και η έκτασή του ήταν 122,5 τ.χλμ. Ο δήμος συνόρευε με τους δήμους Θηβαίων, Δερβενοχωρίων, Οινοφύτων, Σχηματαρίου και με το δήμο Αυλίδας του νομού Ευβοίας. Έδρα του ήταν η Τανάγρα.

Η επαρχία Αιγιαλείας ήταν μία από τις τρεις επαρχίες του νομού Αχαΐας. Έδρα της ήταν το Αίγιο.
