On September 9, 1969, Allegheny Airlines Flight 853, a McDonnell Douglas DC-9 operating a regularly scheduled flight from Boston, Massachusetts, to St. Louis, Missouri, with stops in Baltimore, Maryland; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Indianapolis, Indiana, collided mid-air with a Piper PA-28 light aircraft near Fairland, Indiana. The left wing of the PA-28 sheared off the DC-9's rear tail assembly, causing both to crash, killing all 83 occupants on board both aircraft. More than 50 years later, the incident remains Indiana's deadliest commercial airline disaster.

Meltzer Woods consists of 48 acres (19 ha) of old-growth forest located in Central Indiana. The woods have been included in Indiana's Classified Forest Program since 1928. They are currently protected by the Meltzer family in partnership with the Central Indiana Land Trust. The woods were designated a National Natural Landmark in 1973.

The Shelbyville High School is a historic school complex located at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana. The high school was designed by architects William Butts Ittner and built in 1911. It is a two-story, Neoclassical style brick building on a raised basement. Attached to the high school is the similarly styled, 2+1⁄2-story junior high school designed by Elmer E. Dunlap and built in 1917. The Arts and Crafts inspired two-story, brick gymnasium was added in 1922. A shop addition was constructed in 1942, and was connected to the junior high school by a concrete block addition in 1977. The school buildings have been converted to apartments and the gymnasium is used for community recreational activities.

John Hamilton House, also known as the Hamilton House, is a historic home located at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana. It was built in 1853, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, rectangular, Italianate style brick dwelling. It has a slate roof and sits on a limestone block foundation. The front facade features segmental arched windows, and two two-story projecting polygonal bays flanking a semi-circular one-story porch supported by Doric order columns added about 1910.

Morristown station is a historic train station located at Morristown, Shelby County, Indiana. It was built in 1867–1868 by the Junction Railroad, and is a simple one-story, rectangular, building of pinned beam construction. It has a gable roof that extends to shelter a loading platform for 30 feet (9.1 m). The building served as both a grain elevator and train depot. It was moved to its present site in 1976 to prevent it from demolition.

Shelby County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located at Shelbyville, Shelby County, Indiana. It was built in 1936–1937, and is a two- to three-story, rectangular, Art Deco style limestone building. The building features a recessed five bay central section with two-story, fluted Doric order pilasters and bas relief panels. Also on the property is a contributing 1931 statue of an American Civil War soldier. The building's construction was funded in part by the Public Works Administration.

It was built in 1875, and is a one-story, rectangular, Italianate style brick building. It has a steep gable-front roof and features heavy scroll brackets, a scalloped frieze, and oculus vent. Also on the property is a contributing water pump. It remained in use as a school until about 1919.

It was built in 1939, and is a three-story, rectangular, Art Deco style reinforced concrete building faced in brick and limestone. Middletown Bridge, also known as Shelby County Bridge #149, is a historic stone arch bridge located in Liberty Township, Shelby County, Indiana. It was built in 1903, and is a four-arch bridge constructed of Indiana limestone. It measures 140.8 feet long and 20 feet wide, including the parapet walls. The bridge was torn down by the county in the summer of 2018.
