The Downtown Peoria Historic District is a commercial historic district encompassing seventeen city blocks in downtown Peoria, Illinois. The district's buildings reflect Peoria's development as an industrial center and major Illinois city. While Peoria was platted in the 1820s, the oldest buildings in the district date from 1867, shortly before Peoria's economic boom of the 1870s. In the late nineteenth century, Peoria's whiskey industry was among the largest in the world, and many downtown civic improvements and public buildings were funded by whiskey profits. By the turn of the twentieth century, another economic boom brought a large retail district to downtown Peoria; many of the department stores from this period still stand in the district. An urban renewal project in the mid-twentieth century brought several Modernist skyscrapers to downtown Peoria as well, including the Caterpillar administration building, the DeKroff Metz and Company Building, and the First Federal Savings Tower.

Marquette Apartments is a historic apartment building located at 701 Main Street in Peoria, Illinois. The building was built in 1924 to help meet the need for housing in downtown Peoria, as the number of downtown workers looking for housing near their jobs was growing rapidly. Peoria architects Hewitt & Emerson designed the apartments; while the firm was known for its classically inspired designs, they produced a more modern design for the building. The building has a three-story mixed-use layout, with commercial space on the first floor and residential space on the upper two; unlike smaller mixed-use buildings, the apartments have internal corridors and common entrances for residents. It is the only building of its type remaining in downtown Peoria.

In 1843, a "cave-like barrel-vaulted brick reservoir" was constructed; the structure is concealed within the hillside and captures the flow of three separate springs. The brick reservoir was built for Peoria's first water company, prior to that the site was a Native American campground. Artifacts can still be found around the site. The site was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on March 5, 1982.

The building has a Renaissance Revival design, a popular style at the time. Grandview Drive (sometimes spelled Grand View Drive) is a two and a half mile scenic road with adjacent park areas through Peoria and Peoria Heights, Illinois. Major portions of the road give a view of the Illinois River and its valley as well as clear views of some of the most prestigious and historic homes in the area. Houses along Grandview Drive are among the best known in the city; the residential area on the west of Grandview Drive, opposite the river, was added to the National Register of Historic Places as an historic district in 1996. A large amount of land on the valley side of Grandview Drive is owned by the Peoria Park District and is undeveloped except for park benches. The district's legal name, "Pleasure Driveway and Park District of Peoria", is a reflection of Grandview Drive's original prominence in the Peoria park system. The three building site was constructed in 1890 after the publicly owned Peoria Water Company was sold to John T. Moffat and Henry C. Hodgskins. The building was designed in Romanesque Revival style and first supplied water to the city of Peoria on December 1, 1890. The three structures, Pumping Station #1, Pumping Station #2 and the Main Well House, were included on the property's listing on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on March 18, 1980.

The E.D. Edwards Power Plant is a coal-fired generating plant owned by Vistra Energy. The plant, with a nameplate capacity of 780 megawatts, is connected with the high-tension power supply lines of Central Illinois. It is located on the Illinois River and the Union Pacific Railroad, adjacent to the municipality of Bartonville. The Edwards plant, built by the former Central Illinois Light Company (CILCO), began operations in 1960. In the 2010s, asserting that the plant generated illegal levels of coal dust particulates and was nearing the end of its useful life, environmental groups headed by the Sierra Club and the Natural Resources Defense Council took legal action, starting in 2013, to shut it down. In line with the terms of a settlement announced in September 2019 and approved by a federal court in November 2019, the plant is scheduled to close no later than December 31, 2022. The closure will affect 70 jobs.

Shore Acres Park Clubhouse (known by its former name, the Peoria Automobile Club) is the central feature of Shore Acres Park in Chillicothe, Illinois. The site of the clubhouse, which is located on the Illinois River, was originally part of Columbia Park, a Chillicothe city park established in 1890. In 1911, the Peoria Automobile Club was formed as a social and recreational organization for the automobile owners of Peoria and the surrounding cities; the club soon purchased the park from the city. The club built their clubhouse at the park in 1915; Peoria architects Hotchkiss & Harris provided its Classical Revival design. One of the club's main functions was to advocate for improved roads in Peoria and Central Illinois; in particular, they advocated for a route from Peoria to Chicago that would pass their clubhouse. The 1918 State Bond Issue, which established Illinois' state highway system, provided funding for this route, which became known as Illinois Route 29.

The district is mostly residential and is an example of the opulence once enjoyed by the upper class in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Of particular note are two contributing structures designed by Frank Lloyd Wright: Francis W. Little House at 1505 W. Moss Ave., and the house at 1316 W. Moss Ave. Other NRHP properties also listed as contributing to this district include the Judge Jacob Gale House at 1007 N. North St. and Pettingill-Morron House at 1212 W. The Lincoln Branch Peoria Public Library is a Carnegie library located at 1312 West Lincoln Avenue in Peoria, Illinois. Built in 1910, the building served as the first dedicated library building on Peoria's South Side. The South Side branch library opened in 1903 in a building called the Neighborhood House; however, it had outgrown its space in the building by 1909. The city petitioned the Carnegie Foundation for funding for a new library; the Foundation provided a $20,000 grant for the building, and the city passed a $2,000 annual tax to cover the library's maintenance. Peoria architecture firm Hotchkiss & Harris supplied a Classical Revival design for the building, and construction began in 1910 and was completed the following year. The library became popular with neighborhood residents, setting city records for daily circulation; it also held special collections serving the city's Lebanese and German immigrant communities.

The house has an Italianate design which a local architectural survey regarded as one of the best examples of the style in rural Peoria County. The two-story projecting front entrance includes a porch with square posts, an arched doorway and paired second-story windows, and a gabled pediment at the top. The house's windows are tall and narrow with bracketed hoods. The hip roof atop the house features wide eaves and paired brackets along the cornice.

The Pleasant Grove School is a historic school building located in Logan Township, Peoria County, Illinois, near the community of Eden. The one-room schoolhouse was built in 1856 to educate the children of Pleasant Grove, the name for the surrounding community at the time. The school was built on the same property as the community's church, which has since been demolished, and its cemetery. Local stonemason Joel Lobaugh built the school from locally quarried, rough coursed limestone; his design was utilitarian, with limestone window sills and lintels being the only decorative elements. The school served students until 1945, when all of Logan Township's schools consolidated into a single school in Eden.
