The siege of Cyzicus took place in 73 BC between the armies of Mithridates VI of Pontus and the Roman-allied citizens of Cyzicus in Mysia and Roman Republican forces under Lucius Licinius Lucullus. It was in fact a siege and a counter-siege. It ended in a decisive Roman victory.

The Battle of Cyzicus (Greek: Kyzikos) took place in May or June 410 BC during the Peloponnesian War. During the battle, an Athenian fleet commanded by Alcibiades, Thrasybulus, and Theramenes routed and destroyed a Spartan fleet commanded by Mindarus. The victory allowed Athens to recover control over a number of cities in the Hellespont over the next year. In the wake of their defeat, the Spartans made a peace offer, which the Athenians rejected.

Koyun Island (Turkish: Koyun Adası, literally "Sheep Island") is a Turkish island in the Sea of Marmara. At 40°30′33″N 27°34′40″E it is a part of Erdek ilçe (district) of Balıkesir Province. It is situated between the better known islands of Avşa Island and Paşalimanı Island.

The Battle of the Cyzicus (Catalan: Batalla del riu Cízic) was fought in October 1303 between the Catalan Company of the East under Roger de Flor, acting as mercenaries on behalf of the Byzantine Empire, and the Oghuz Turks (likely Karasids). It was the first of several engagements between the two sides during the Catalan Company's Anatolian Campaign against the Turks.

Kapıdağ Peninsula (Turkish: Kapıdağ Yarımadası) (Greek: Χερσόνησος της Κυζίκου) is a tied island in northwestern Anatolia extending into the Sea of Marmara in Balıkesir Province, Turkey. The peninsula forms the Gulf of Bandırma on its east and the Gulf of Erdek on its west.

Erdek Naval Base (Turkish: Erdek Deniz Üssü) is a base of the Turkish Navy on the south coast of the Sea of Marmara 1.2 km (0.75 mi) south-east of Erdek in Balıkesir Province. It is the principal base for mine warfare vessels.

Bathys Limen (Ancient Greek: Βαθύς λιμήν), meaning deep harbor, was a town located on the coast of the Propontis on the promontory of Cyzicus, in ancient Mysia.

Belkıs Tombolo is a tombolo in Marmara Sea of Turkey. It is in Balıkesir Province. At 40°22′N 27°53′E the tombolo connects Kapıdağ Peninsula to main land (Anatolia). The width of the tombolo is 1,700 metres (5,600 ft) and the length is 1,500 metres (4,900 ft). Bandırma Gulf is to the east and Erdek Gulf is to the west of the tombolo. The eastern shore is covered by sand dunes and the western shore is a sandy beach. The midpoint of the tombolo is a marshland. There are two highways across the tombolo from Bandırma in the mainland to the peninsula; One to the eastern coast and one to the western coast and Erdek.
