Ramanathapuram

Dhanushkodi is an abandoned town at the south-eastern tip of Pamban Island of the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is south-east of Pamban and is about 24 kilometres (15 mi) west of Talaimannar in Sri Lanka. The town was destroyed during the 1964 Rameswaram cyclone and remains uninhabited in the aftermath. Although devoid of inhabitants, Dhanushkodi remains a tourist attraction due to its historical and mythological relevance.

Rameswaram (IPA: [ɾaːmeːsʋaɾam]; also transliterated as Ramesvaram, Rameshwaram) is a municipality in the Ramanathapuram district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Rameswaram TV Tower is a free-standing tower that was built in 1995. Standing at 323 metres (1,060 ft), it is the second tallest structure in India. The tower was used by Doordarshan for television broadcasting until it was phased out on 2022. It is currently used to relay Akashvani Madurai's FM programmes in 100.9 MHz. The main structure is made of reinforced cement concrete and the mast is made of lattice steel.

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Memorial is a memorial dedicated to the former president of the Republic of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam located in Peikarumbu, Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, India. The memorial was designed and constructed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a tribute to Kalam and to display the cultural heritage and ethnic diversity of India. It was officially inaugurated by the prime minister of the Republic of India Narendra Modi on 22 July 2017. A symbol of national integration, the memorial is an amalgamation of Mughal and Indian architecture.

The Kothandaramaswamy Temple at Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu is a shrine dedicated to the Hindu deity Rama. The temple is Classified one among the 108 Abhimana Kshethram of Vaishnavate tradition. Located at a distance of 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from Rameswaram, it forms the southernmost tip of the island. The Pamban Lighthouse is a lighthouse on the Pamban Island in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The original tower commissioned in 1846 was 41 ft (12 m) tall and used coconut oil based wick lamps. The current 66 ft (20 m)-high tower was constructed in 1902 into a 66-foot cylindrical tower with a fourth order Fresnel lens. The lighthouse served as a navigational aid for ships transiting the Pamban canal. It was modernized in 2019, and features a solar powered LED-based flash lamp, along with satellite-based communication and response systems.

It is one of the two branch lines gets diverted from Pamban Junction one is Pamban Junction–Rameswaram Branch line and the other is Pamban Junction–Dhanushkodi Branch line. A train called Boat mail went from Madras(now Chennai) Egmore Station to Ceylon(now Sri Lanka) with a halt at Dhanushkodi station. It was the prime and most economic way to reach Ceylon.

The Palaiya Jumma Palli (transl. Paḻaiya jum'mā paḷḷi – transl. Old Jumma Masjid), also known as the Meen Kadai Palli, is a mosque, located in Kilakarai, in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Completed in 630 CE, it is believed to be one of the oldest mosques in the world and along with Cheraman Juma Masjid in Kodungallur, Kerala and Barwada Mosque in Ghogha, Gujarat, the first mosque in India.

Kilakkarai Lighthouse is located at Kilakkarai, Tamil Nadu. The lighthouse started functioning on 2 October 1979. There was no lighthouse at this location prior to the installation of the present structure. A flag mast was present at this location previously to assist fishermen. The light source was modified on 30 April 2003. It was commissioned in 1979, is a 30 m‑high hexagonal concrete tower painted in white and red bands, guiding vessels through the Gulf of Mannar’s hazardous shoals. Initially using a paraffin‑vapor burner, its light was electrified in 2003 and upgraded in 2009 to a rotating metal‑halide beacon mounted at 35 m above sea level, visible for 16 nautical miles. Powered by the coastal grid with diesel backup and designed for easy maintenance via dual galleries, it remains a vital navigational aid for local fishing and merchant traffic.

Palai Park (Tamil: பாலை பூங்கா) is one among the two Genetic Heritage Gardens in Tamil Nadu (Palai Park at Achadiparambu, Ramanadhapuram and Kurinji Park at Yercaud, Salem). This park is maintained by the Department of Horticulture and Plantation Crops. It was named after the Palai landscape, one of the five landscapes mentioned in the ancient sangam literature representing dry ecological zone. This garden was developed by Tamil Nadu Horticulture Development Agency (TANHODA) and opened by then chief minister Selvi J. Jayalalithaa.
