The Athens News (stylized as NEWS) is an American free weekly, English-language newspaper published in Athens, Ohio. It was founded in 1977, and serves the area that contains Ohio University. It was initial published weekly under the name Athena "A" News but was published every Monday and Thursday since 1982 before becoming a weekly paper in 2019. Today, it publishes every Wednesday. It is one of three newspapers in Athens County, alongside The Athens Messenger and Ohio University's The Post. In the fall of 2014, the News was acquired by Adams Publishing Group, who had acquired the Messenger earlier that year. Corinne Colbert currently serves as editor of the publication and Cole Behrens serves as Associate Editor.

The Mount Zion Baptist Church is a Baptist church in Athens, Ohio, which was frequently used as a meeting place for the Black community from its inception in 1905 until the 1990s. In 1980, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is the future home to The Mount Zion Black Cultural Center which is planned to open in 2026.

Ohio Brew Week is a festival held annually in Athens, Ohio. The 9-day celebration of Ohio brewing brings together brewers and beer lovers from all around the nation to sample beers and celebrate the joy of craft brewing. It is a week full of the celebration of “craft beer and Ohio pride.” More than 26 different breweries located around Ohio showcase their beer at restaurants, bars, and breweries in uptown Athens.
Grover Center was originally built to be the home for the Ohio Bobcats men's basketball team. The first men's basketball game in the arena featured the Ohio Bobcats hosting the previous years national champion Ohio State Buckeyes on December 1, 1960 to a sold out crowd. The Ohio Bobcats basketball team only called the Grover Center home from 1960–68 after the much larger Convocation Center opened up December 3, 1968. Halloween in Athens Ohio is an annual block party in Uptown Athens, Ohio, United States. Although called a block party, the festivities span several blocks and revelers can be found at house parties around the city. On the closest Saturday to Halloween, an estimated 10,000 to 30,000 party-goers dressed in costumes descend upon the City of Athens. The Athens Lunatic Asylum, now a mixed-use development known as The Ridges, was a Kirkbride Plan mental hospital operated in Athens, Ohio, from 1874 until 1993. During its operation, the hospital provided services to a variety of patients including Civil War veterans, children, and those declared mentally unwell. After a period of disuse the property was redeveloped by the state of Ohio. Today, The Ridges are a part of Ohio University and house the Kennedy Museum of Art as well as an auditorium and many offices, classrooms, and storage facilities.

The Athens Skate Park is, as the name states, a skatepark located in Athens, Ohio, behind the Athens Recreational Center (known simply as "The Rec Center" to locals.) The park was at one time the only skatepark in the world to feature a capsule (a full pipe connected to a cradle). The park was built by Grindline Skateparks in 2003 and is the second-largest concrete skatepark in Ohio behind the Kettering street Plaza.

The College Green of Ohio University is the university's centralized wooded lawn which saw the first academic buildings in the former Northwest Territory. The yard sits roughly aligned to cardinal directions, with Manasseh Cutler Hall facing true north. The Green, at the heart of the Athens campus, is surrounded by administrative, academic, and library buildings named for pivotal leaders in university history: Manasseh Cutler, Robert Wilson, William McGuffey, and Vernon Alden to name a few. The most prominent three structures which adorn College Green, all over 200 years old and made of red brick, are featured on the official university logo and set the university's Federal appearance: Cutler Hall, originally constructed in 1816 as the College Edifice but not officially open until 1819 due to a fire, is the home of the President's office; Wilson Hall built 1837 houses the College of Arts & Sciences; and McGuffey Hall was built 1839. For most of the nineteenth and twentieth century, College Green saw small memorials and wartime monuments dedicated in remembrance of the people involved in those centuries' great conflicts. The Green is the centerpiece of a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, encompassing the collegiate yard, flanking buildings, and other nearby campus buildings.

It is located at the center of the Ohio University campus in Athens, Ohio. A National Historic Landmark, it continues to house school offices. OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital is a 144-bed community hospital at 55 Hospital Drive, Athens, Ohio 45701. O'Bleness overlooks the Hocking River. The westernmost wing of the hospital is known as the Cornwell Center, which houses medical offices; a separate office building slightly northwest of this was recently built, and is known as the Castrop Center. The Ohio Softball Field (the "OSF") is the softball field of the Ohio Bobcats. It has been home to Ohio Bobcats softball since it was opened on April 2, 1999. On that day, Ohio swept a doubleheader (6–5, 6–4) from Miami University in front of a crowd of 436 fans. Ohio won its first seven games at the facility before suffering a 9–2 loss to Kent State University on April 9. The OSF all-time attendance record was set on April 10, 2011, as Ohio downed the Akron Zips before a standing-room only crowd of 573. Ohio ended its 2018 season with a 11–0 record which granted its way to the Tournament Championship and in a MAC Regular Season.

Ossian C. Bird Arena is an ice arena and recreational sport facility located in Athens, Ohio and owned and operated by Ohio University.
