The Central line is a London Underground line that runs between West Ruislip or Ealing Broadway in the west, and Epping or Woodford via Hainault in the north-east, via the West End, the City, and the East End. Printed in red on the Tube map, the line serves 49 stations over 46 miles (74 km), making it the network's longest line. It is one of only two lines on the Underground network to cross the Greater London boundary, the other being the Metropolitan line. British Airways Flight 38 was a scheduled international passenger flight operating the flight from Beijing Capital International Airport in Beijing, China, to Heathrow Airport in London, United Kingdom, an 8,100-kilometre (4,400 nmi; 5,000 mi) trip. On 17 January 2008, the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, which crashed-landed short of the runway at Heathrow, touched down hard on the grass undershoot, breaking off the landing gear and skidding across the turf infield before sliding to the right of the threshold, 330 metres from its initial impact point. Of the 152 people on board, no fatalities resulted, but 47 people were injured, 1 of them seriously. The extensively crippled aircraft (registered as G-YMMM), which sustained heavy damage to both engines, both wing roots, wing-to-body fairing, flaps, right-hand horizontal stabilizer's leading edge, fuel tanks (which were punctured by the gear breaking off) as well as the lower fuselage belly from the ground slide, was written-off as a result, becoming the first hull loss of a Boeing 777.
The T2 Energy Centre is a biomass-fuelled combined heating and power (CHP) station at Heathrow Airport in London which opened in December 2012. Haydon Hall was one of the three main houses of Eastcote, within what is now the London Borough of Hillingdon. The house was built in 1630 as a home for Lady Alice, Dowager Countess of Derby who had been living in Harefield. The house remained in the ownership of Lady Alice's descendants for several years, on the side of her eldest daughter. For a time the house was renamed "Eastcote Park" though was returned to the original name.
The 1948 Northwood mid-air collision took place on 4 July at 15:03 when a Douglas DC-6 of Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) and an Avro York C.1 of the Royal Air Force (RAF) collided in mid-air over Northwood in London, UK (then in Middlesex). All thirty-nine people aboard both aircraft were killed. It was SAS's first fatal aviation accident and was at the time the deadliest civilian aviation accident in the UK. It is still the deadliest mid-air collision in British history.
The London Motor Museum had more than 160 exhibits; they included classic cars from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, and a selection of famous cars – including Herbie the Volkswagen Beetle, one of six original Batmobiles used in the first Batman (1989) film, and a Ford Gran Torino from the television series Starsky & Hutch. The museum closed down permanently in June 2018 after a dispute with the local council over business rates. The vehicles have now been moved to other museums across the UK.

The 1942 Ruislip Wellington accident occurred on 18 October 1942 when a Vickers Wellington 1C medium bomber of No. 311 Squadron RAF crashed near South Ruislip station, Middlesex, on approach to RAF Northolt. On 3 July 1968, BKS Air Transport Flight C.6845, an Airspeed Ambassador registration G-AMAD of BKS Air Transport crashed at Heathrow Airport, damaging two parked Trident airliners as it cartwheeled into the incomplete Heathrow Terminal 1, then under construction. Six of the eight people on board the Ambassador were killed, along with the eight racehorses being transported on it. The crash was blamed on the failure of a flap-operating rod due to metal fatigue, resulting in asymmetrical lift.
The Heathrow Airport bombing occurred on 20 April 1984, when a bomb exploded in the baggage area of Terminal 2 at Heathrow Airport. The bomb exploded at 7:55 pm and injured 23 people. Commander William Hucklesby, at the time head of Scotland Yard's anti-terror branch, reported that the detonated device was constructed using two pounds (910 g) of commercial or military grade explosives. A hospital spokesperson stated that all but five victims were released shortly after being treated for minor scrapes, cuts, and bruises.

The 1956 London Heathrow Avro Vulcan crash was a military aviation accident that occurred at Heathrow Airport on 1 October 1956 when Avro Vulcan B.1 XA897 crashed while attempting to land in poor weather. The captain and co-pilot ejected safely but the remaining three crew and one passenger were killed.
Lower Colne is a Local Wildlife Site (reference M059) designated by London as a Metropolitan Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC).. It is located in the Borough of Hillingdon and follows the course of two rivers, the River Colne and the Wraysbury River. This Local Wildlife Site extends from grassland just north of the M4 motorway to grassland adjacent to the A3113 road and includes Harmondsworth Moor Country Park, Orchard Farm and Heathrow Colne Valley Biodiversity Sites.
On the evening of 20 March 2025, a fire began at an electrical substation in Hayes, Hillingdon, London, leading to the closure of Heathrow Airport. The fire cut electricity supply to the airport which was not able to be managed by back-up systems.
