Paul G. Blazer High School is a public high school in Ashland, Kentucky, United States. It was named for Paul G. Blazer and is part of the Ashland Independent School District. It replaced the former Ashland High School on Lexington Avenue and the former Booker T. Washington Grade and High School at Seventh Street and Central Avenue in 1962. It is designed in a campus-style layout with seven buildings which is unique among high schools in the region, as most consist of a single building.

England Hill is an unincorporated community located on the west shore of the Big Sandy River and along Paddle Creek in Boyd County, Kentucky, adjacent to the southern city limits of Catlettsburg on U.S. Route 23 and historic Mayo Trail. Mayo Trail was previously U.S. 23 until the current alignment which bypasses the community was completed in 1963. England Hill is closely associated with the city of Catlettsburg and has fought annexation by Catlettsburg numerous times over the years. The area known as England Hill is served by the England Hill Volunteer Fire Department, founded in 1977, and the Catlettsburg, Kentucky zip code. The subdivision known as Hyland Heights was developed on a portion of the former Hyland Dairy Farm, after the business was sold to Johnson Dairy Co. in the 1960s. The lands of the former dairy farm was subdivided and sold in lots during the 1960s and 1970s. Transplants who moved from Catlettsburg due to the modernization/widening projects that were completed on U.S. Route 23 during that time. The England Hill School, later renamed Cooper School, served residents in K-8, then K-6 for many years in Hyland Heights. Cooper School was open for 26 years, from 1962 to 1988 when students were transferred to the nearby Catlettsburg or Durbin Elementary Schools depending on the location of their home address. England Hill is a suburb of Catlettsburg, and has fought annexation into the city many times, most notably in 1987, when Catlettsburg tried to annex England Hill and all areas north of I-64.

Leach Railroad Station, is an unincorporated community located 3 miles south of Catlettsburg in Boyd County, Kentucky. It was first established in approximately 1882 as a freight and passenger loading facility for the Chatteroi railroad (later Chesapeake and Ohio Railway). The former community of Leech Station is now mostly owned by Marathon Oil, which operates one of its seven oil refineries there. Marathon bought the large refinery at Leech Station from Ashland, Inc. in 1999. In 2000, Marathon took over ownership of old U.S. 23 and then purchased the remaining residential property located at Leech Station.

Catlettsburg is a former Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad station located in downtown Catlettsburg, Kentucky. Opened between 1897 and 1890 to replace an older wooden station, it served trains until 1958. Amtrak trains began stopping at Tri-State Station some 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the north in 1975; it was renamed Catlettsburg around 1988. Amtrak service was moved from Catlettsburg to Ashland in 1998. The C&O station was refurbished from 2004 to 2006 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Opened in 1988 as Cedar Knoll Galleria, the mall struggled to keep tenants for several years, eventually becoming a dead mall. Starting in 2005, however, redevelopment began on the property, and customer traffic has increased. Rural King is the only anchor store. Dining choices are My Dad's Pizza and Callihan's.

The Catlettsburg Refinery is an American oil refinery. It is located in northeastern Kentucky, at the intersection of Interstate 64 and U.S. Route 23 in Catlettsburg, Kentucky near the cities of Ashland, Kentucky and Huntington, West Virginia. The facility was built in 1916 by the Great Eastern Refining Company and purchased in 1924 by the Ashland Refining Company. The refinery now occupies a 650-acre (260 ha) plus site, producing more than 277,000 barrels per day (44,000 m3/d), and employing around 1,600 employees and contractors. Its location on the west banks of the Big Sandy River and only two miles south of the Ohio River, allows it to ship products by barge as well as pipeline. It is owned and operated by Marathon Petroleum Corporation.

Unity, Kentucky is a small unincorporated community and former coal mining community that formerly had a U.S. Post Office located two miles west of Catlettsburg. Kentucky Route 168 passes through the hamlet. Catletts Creek, a tributary of the Ohio River, runs through the community of Unity. Unity was served by the Catletts Creek School, later named Eidson Elementary, from 1962 to 1993, when all students were transferred to Catlettsburg Elementary. The hamlet of Unity is virtually non-existent today, as most residents of Unity refer to Catlettsburg as their home, since it is the postal zip code used.
