The sinking of Rainbow Warrior, codenamed Opération Satanique, was an act of French state-terrorism carried out on 10 July 1985. The event was described by France as a "covert operation" by the "action" branch of the French foreign intelligence agency, the Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE). During the operation, two operatives (both French citizens) sank the flagship of the Greenpeace fleet, Rainbow Warrior, at the Port of Auckland on her way to a protest against a planned French nuclear test in Moruroa. Fernando Pereira, a photographer, drowned on the sinking ship.

The First World War Memorial Beacon is a war memorial on Quay Street in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand. New Zealand's first built World War I memorial, it was first unveiled in 1915, before being lost in the 1960s. It was rediscovered and restored in 1999–2000, at which time it was placed outside the New Zealand Maritime Museum. The Civic Theatre is a large heritage combination performing-arts theatre, live-music venue, and cinema seating 2,378 people in Auckland, New Zealand. First opened on 20 December 1929, it underwent a major renovation and two-year conservation effort in the late 1990s, and was reopened on 20 December 1999 (its 70th birthday). The 1993 Auckland mid-air collision was an aircraft accident in New Zealand. It occurred on 26 November 1993, when two aircraft operated by Airwork, under contract to the New Zealand Police, collided and crashed in central Auckland. The mid-air collision of the Aérospatiale TwinStar helicopter and Piper Archer aeroplane resulted in the deaths of all four occupants – a civilian Airwork pilot on each aircraft and two New Zealand Police officers on the helicopter. The accident occurred in daylight with excellent visibility, in uncontrolled airspace (class G), with both aircraft flying under visual flight rules. Both the helicopter and aeroplane were operated by Airwork (NZ), and working under contract to the New Zealand Police at the time of the accident.

The Auckland Savings Bank Building is a Category I historic building at 260 Queen Street, Auckland CBD, New Zealand. The building is recognised as the oldest intact bank building in central Auckland and a significant example of late 19th-century commercial architecture. Constructed in 1884, it originally served as the premises of the Auckland Savings Bank. In 1977, the building was acquired by the newly established McDonald's New Zealand and converted into a fast food restaurant. It was the first McDonald's restaurant in Auckland and the second in New Zealand, after Porirua. The restaurant closed in 2020 and relocated two doors down Queen Street. In June 2023 McDonald's listed the building for sale. As of April 2024, it remains on the market.
