Apollonia (Greek: Ἀπολλωνία) was an ancient town in the peninsula of Acte, or Mount Athos in Macedonia, the inhabitants of which were called Macrobii. Homer mentions Athos in the Iliad (Rhapsody 219) and, in connection to Mount Athos, Gaius Plinius Secundus (the ancient historian and Roman commander also known as Pliny the Elder), refers to the cities of Ouranoupolis, Palaiotrion, Thysson, Kleonas, and Apollonia.
The Amalfinon Monastery (Greek: Μονή των Αμαλφηνών)(Latin: Monasterium Amalfitanorum) or Amalfion was the most prominent of the three former monasteries for Latin-speaking Christians on Mount Athos before the Great Schism. After the events of 1054, its affiliation with either Eastern Orthodox Church or the Catholic Church has been subject of debate. It was located halfway between the Athonite monasteries of Great Lavra and Karakallou Monastery.
Lakkoskiti (Greek: Σκήτη Αγίου Δημητρίου or Λακκοσκήτη, Romanian: Schitul Lacu) is the short form name of a small "monastic village" of not more than 15 "huts" (houses) consisting the idiorrhythmic "skete of Agiou Dimitriou tou Lakkou". It is situated in the north foothills of Mount Athos, in Greece, in the Morfonou River valley and surrounded by a forest of chestnut trees. The summit of Antiathonas (1042 m) is located just to the southwest of the skete. Lakkoskiti is inhabited by Romanian monks.
Karoulia (Greek: Καρούλια, lit. 'pulley') is an Eastern Orthodox skete of the community of Mount Athos that is subordinate to the Great Lavra. It is located on the southernmost shore of Mount Athos.

Thucydides says that among the cities of the peninsula, Sane was colony of Andros, while Thyssus, Cleonae, Acrothoum, Olophyxus and Dium had a heterogeneous population of bilingual barbarians formed by a few Chalcidians and, the rest, Pelasgians, Bisaltians, Crestonians and Edoni. Strabo points out that its primitive populated was composed of Pelasgians from Lemnos. According to Strabo, it was colonized by Euboean colonists from Chalcis. Heraclides Lembus also writes that Chalcidians settled there. It was a member of the Delian League as it appears on the tribute lists to Athens during the Peloponnesian War.

Ο ναός της Παναγίας Κουζελιώτισσας βρίσκεται εντός του περιβόλου της Μονής Μεγίστης Λαύρας του Αγίου Όρους, λίγα μέτρα από την κεντρική πύλη της, το πρώτο κτήριο που συναντά κανείς μόλις περάσει τη βαριά ξύλινη πόρτα. Είναι αφιερωμένος στα Εισόδια της Θεοτόκου και θεωρείται ως το δεύτερο καθολικό της μονής, ενώ είναι γνωστός και ως ναός της Πορτάρισσας ή της Οικονόμισσας ή της Κουκουζέλισσας.
Στη Μονή Ιβήρων ανήκει η Σκήτη Τιμίου Προδρόμου, που απλώνεται σε πλαγιά δυτικά της μονής και σε απόσταση μισής ώρας από αυτήν μέσα από δασικό δρόμο. Έχει μορφή οικισμού με καλύβες και Κυριακό και είναι ιδιόρρυθμη. Δεν είναι εξακριβωμένη η χρονολογία της συγκρότησης του οικισμού σε σκήτη. Σαν οικισμός ήταν ανεπτυγμένος τουλάχιστον από την πρώτη δεκαετία του 16ου αιώνα.
Η Σκήτη του Αγίου Δημητρίου απέχει γύρω στη μία ώρα νοτιοδυτικά της Μονής Βατοπεδίου, στην οποία και υπάγεται. Το καθολικό της είναι αφιερωμένο στον Άγιο Δημήτριο. Είναι σε μορφή οικισμού. Στη θέση της Σκήτης ήταν πιθανότατα η παλαιά μονή του Χαλκέως. Οργανώθηκε ως Σκήτη το 18ο αιώνα. Οι καλύβες της Σκήτης του Αγίου Δημητρίου είναι είκοσι μία. Οι περισσότερες από αυτές είναι σήμερα ερειπωμένες.
