Şırnak

Gordyene or Corduene (Armenian: Կորդուք, romanized: Korduk’; Greek: Κορδυηνή, romanized: Kordyene; Hebrew: קרטיגיני, romanized: Kartigini) was an ancient historical region, located south of Lake Van, present-day eastern Turkey.

Hoz ou Horze (en syriaque : ܗܙ, , en kurde : Hoze, et en turc : Ayrim) est un ancien village assyro-chaldéen situé dans le district de Beytüşşebap de la province de Şırnak (aujourd'hui en Turquie).

August 1992 Şırnak Clashes were a series of clashes that broke out in the city of Şırnak between Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and Turkish security forces from 18 to 21 August 1992, after PKK members had built barricades and attacked the District Gendarmerie Command's building with rockets and mortars. During this battle over 20,000 of Şırnak's 25,000 inhabitants fled the town due to the violence. A total of 107 people were killed, including 85 rebels and 22 civilians.

The 1992 Görmeç avalanche was an avalanche that occurred on 1 February 1992, in Görmeç, Şırnak Province in south-east Turkey, killing 97 people including 71 soldiers.

The Hilly Flanks are the upland areas surrounding the Fertile Crescent of Southwest Asia, including the foothills of the Zagros Mountains, the Taurus Mountains, and the highland parts of the Levant. The Hilly Flanks foothill chain spans over 1000 miles, including parts of Turkey, northwestern Iraq, and western Iran. The region is just north of Mesopotamia, with similar characteristics of fertility with the added trait of foothills and plateaus.

Üstü kapalı karşılıklı iki tribünü bulunan stadyum tamamı koltuklu olmak üzere 3.050 seyirci kapasitelidir. Ayrıca stadyum çevresinde kapalı spor salonu, yarı olimpik yüzme havuzu ve diğer spor dallarına ait spor alanları bulunmaktadır.

Küpeli Dağı veya Gabar Dağı, Türkiye'nin Şırnak ilinin kuzeydoğusunda bulunan, Güneydoğu Toroslar üzerindeki dağ. Batı ve güneyinden Dicle Nehri geçer. Güneydoğusunda Cudi Dağı, kuzeyinde Eruh Dağları bulunur.

The Silopi Dam is a gravity dam on the Hezil River about 24 km (15 mi) northeast of Silopi in Şırnak Province, southeast Turkey. Under contract from Turkey's State Hydraulic Works, İLCİ Holding A.Ş began construction on the dam in 2008 and it was completed in November 2012.

The Çetintepe Dam is a gravity dam under construction on the Ortasu River (a tributary of the Hezil River) in Uludere district of Şırnak Province, southeast Turkey. Under contract from Turkey's State Hydraulic Works, Ozerka Insatt began construction on the dam in 2008 and a completion date has not been announced.

Finik is an archaeological site in southeastern Turkey. It is located on the rocky cliffs overlooking the eastern bank of the Tigris, 14 kilometers upstream from the city of Cizre. It has been identified with the ancient Pinaka, mentioned by Strabo as one of the principal cities of the region of Gordyene. The medieval Islamic medieval writers al-Ya'qubi and Abu'l-Fida, who called the site Fenek or Fanak, described it as the site of an impregnable fortress, the ruins of which still stand.

Bohtan (also Buhtan, Bokhti, Botan, Cizre-Botan, Bokhtan) was a medieval Kurdish principality in the Ottoman Empire centered on the town of Jazirah ibn 'Omar (modern Cizre also known as Cizîra Botan (Jazira Botan)) in southeastern Anatolia. The official religion of this principality was Yezidism in 14th century, although the rulers eventually converted to Islam, Bohtan constituted the third major Yezidi enclave after Shekhan and Sinjar until the 19th century.

The Cizre Dam is a dam being constructed on the Tigris River north of Cizre, Turkey. The Cizre Dam is to be built in conjunction and downstream of the Ilisu Dam. The Cizre Dam is also one of the planned dams of Turkey's Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP). The purpose of the Cizre Dam is irrigation, hydro-power and to control the tailwaters of the Ilisu Dam.

Constantius II besieged the fortress city of Bezabde in Zabdicene in 360, held by the Sasanians. The Sasanians successfully defended the fortress city against the Roman attack.

The 2016 Cizre bombing was a suicide bombing by PKK member Mustafa Aslan in Cizre, Turkey. The assailant used a car bomb to attack a police checkpoint outside the police headquarters. Twelve police officers and Aslan were killed in addition to 75 police officers and three civilians injured.

Shapur II besieged the fortress city of Bezabde in Zabdicene in 360, held by the Romans. Despite adamant resistance from three Roman legions and local archers, the Sasanians led by Shapur II successfully besieged Bezabde and defeated the Roman force.

The Defense of Azakh was one of the few remaining pockets of resistance during the Sayfo that took place in Azakh (Syriac: ܐܙܟ, romanized: Azakh). Ottoman authorities labeled these pockets of resistance the Midyat Rebellion after Midyat, the largest Assyrian town in Tur Abdin. The Azakh defense was coupled with the Defense of Iwardo, which also took place during the Sayfo.

Habur Sınır Kapısı, Irak-Türkiye gümrük kapısıdır. Şırnak ilinin Silopi ilçesinde bulunan sınır kapısına yolundan ulaşılabilir. Deniz seviyesinden 508 metre yüksekliktedir. Sınırın diğer tarafında İbrahim Halil Sınır Kapısı bulunmaktadır.

Šabirēšu (auch Schabireschu; ^uruša-bi-ri-i-sú, ^urušá-1.KASKAL.GÍD-ri und Ša-PÚ-šu) ist eine bisher nicht sicher lokalisierte eisenzeitliche Stadt im nördlichen Mesopotamien. Sie ist seit Tukulti-apil-Ešarra III., gesichert seit Sargon belegt. Vielleicht war sie Provinzhauptstadt und damit Sitz des rab šaqē. In letzter Zeit wird dies aber eher für Dur-Enlil angenommen. Forrer lokalisiert sie im Tur Abdin.

On 24 November 2015, a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet shot down a Russian Sukhoi Su-24M attack aircraft near the Syria–Turkey border. According to Turkey, the aircraft was fired upon while in Turkish airspace because it violated the border up to a depth of 2.19 kilometres (1.36 miles) for about 17 seconds after being warned to change its heading ten times over a period of five minutes before entering the airspace. The Russian Defence Ministry denied that the aircraft ever left Syrian airspace, claiming that their satellite data showed that the Sukhoi was about 1,000 metres (1,100 yd) inside Syrian airspace when it was shot down.
