Bingöl

The 2020 Bingöl earthquake occurred at 17:24 local time (14:24 UTC) on 14 June in Bingöl, Turkey. The magnitude of the earthquake was determined to be 5.8 M_w. The earthquake's epicentre was close to the Kaynarpınar village in Karlıova, Bingöl and felt in the neighbouring provinces of Erzurum, Diyarbakır, Elazığ and Muş. 392 aftershocks were detected following the earthquake, with the largest being a 5.5 M_w  event.

The 1866 Bingöl earthquake struck the Ottoman Empire on 12 May. It had an estimated surface-wave magnitude of 7.2 and was associated with faulting along the East Anatolian Fault. The earthquake resulted in over 680 fatalities and the destruction of thousands of homes in Bingöl Province.

The Yedisu Dam is an earth-fill embankment dam on the Peri River (a tributary of the Euphrates), in Kiğı district of Bingöl Province, Turkey. Its primary purpose is hydroelectric power generation and is the second dam in the Peri River cascade. Construction on the dam began in 2009 and its power station was commissioned in 2011. The entire project was inaugurated in 2012. It is owned and operated by Özaltın Energy.

The floating islands of Bingöl (Turkish: Yüzen Adalar Tabiat Anıtı) are mass of floating aquatic plants in the form of islands on a lake in Bingöl Province, eastern Turkey. The formation is a registered natural monument of the country.

An earthquake hit eastern Turkey with a moment magnitude of 6.4 and a maximum Mercalli intensity of IX (Violent) on 1 May 2003 at 03:27 local time. The epicenter of this strike-slip earthquake was in Bingöl Province, 15 km north of the city of Bingöl. At least 177 people were killed and 3,305 buildings collapsed or suffered heavy damage in the affected region. Eighty-four of the fatalities occurred when a dormitory block collapsed in a boarding school in Celtiksuyu.

The 1949 Karlıova earthquake occurred at 18:44 UTC on 17 August with an epicenter near Karlıova in Bingöl Province, Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. It had an estimated magnitude of 6.7, a maximum felt intensity of X (Extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale, and caused 320–450 casualties and destroyed 3,500 buildings.

The 1971 Bingöl earthquake was a M_w6.6–6.7 earthquake that occurred at 18:44:02 local time on 22 May. It had a surface-wave magnitude of 6.9 and a maximum intensity of IX (Violent) on the Mercalli intensity scale, killing 755–1,000 people. Bingöl was largely destroyed, as well as many houses in the nearby Bingöl plain. Surface displacement of 38 km (24 mi) and various other surficial effects were directly caused by the earthquake.

Lake Gerendal (Turkish: Gerendal Gölü); is a Crater lake in the Büyükçaltı village of Palu district of Elazığ province, Turkey. It is located 18 kilometers away from Bingöl city center.
