The Diocese of Mangalore (Latin: Diocesis Mangalorensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical jurisdiction or diocese of the Catholic Church located in the city of Mangalore, India. The diocese is a suffragan in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of Bangalore. At present, it comprises the whole civil districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi in Karnataka state. The area of the Diocese was collectively referred to as South Canara during the Company rule in India, in the subsequent British India after Direct rule from London commenced & in the early post-independence Bombay state, prior to the States Reorganisation Act (1956). It was established as a separate Apostolic Vicariate from the Apostolic Vicariate of Verapoly in 1853, and was promoted to a diocese on 1 September 1886.

Bajpe is a locality in Mangalore city of Dakshina Kannada district in the state of Karnataka, now also known as Bajpe Town, India. It is around 18 km (11 mi) from the city of Mangalore. The Mangalore International Airport is located at Bajpe and was previously known as the Bajpe Aerodrome. City bus number 47 connects Bajpe to State Bank. There are a number of villages surrounding Bajpe, for which it serves as a hub. The nearby villages to which Bajpe serves as hub are Permude, Hosabettu, Kinnigoli, Kalamundkur and Kateel. Bajpe is derived from the Tulu word, Bija da Appe (Mother of Seeds) since it was famous for its agricultural market in olden days.

Air India Express Flight 812 was a scheduled international flight from Dubai International Airport, Dubai, to Mangalore International Airport, Mangalore. On 22 May 2010, the Boeing 737-800 passenger jet operating the flight crashed on landing at Mangalore. The captain had continued an unstabilised approach, despite three calls from the first officer to initiate a "go-around", resulting in the aircraft overshooting the runway, falling down a hillside, and bursting into flames. Of the 166 passengers and crew on board, 158 were killed (all 6 crew members and 152 passengers); only eight survived. This was the first fatal accident involving Air India Express.

The siege of Mangalore was conducted during the Second Anglo-Mysore War by Tipu Sultan and forces of the Kingdom of Mysore against a British East India Company garrison led by Colonel Campbell. The port city of Mangalore on the west coast of India was besieged from 20 May 1783 until the garrison capitulated on 30 January 1784 after being reduced to starvation; of the original garrison of 700 British soldiers and 2000 Indian troops there were only 850 survivors. The siege was one of the last major actions of the war; Mangalore was where the treaty ending the war was signed in March 1784.

The Netravati River or Netravathi Nadi has its origins at Bangrabalige valley, Yelaneeru Ghat in Kudremukha in Chikkamagaluru district of Karnataka, India. This river flows through the famous pilgrimage place Dharmasthala and is considered one of the holy rivers of India. It merges with the Kumaradhara River at Uppinangadi before flowing to the Arabian Sea, south of Mangalore city. This river is the main source of water to Bantwal and Mangalore.

Adoration Monastery of the Sisters of St-Clare is a Christian monastery in Hampankatta, Mangalore, Karnataka, India, near Milagres Church. On 14 Sept 2008, the 2008 attacks on Christians in southern Karnataka broke out here, quickly followed by some 13 others within one hour. The attacks began when a group of some 15 youths on motorbikes from the suspected Hindu organisation of Bajrang Dal arrived at the chapel at around 10:15 AM, IST, shouting a pro-Bajrang Dal slogan. They entered the monastery and attacked it with lathis, desecrating the tabernacle and the Eucharist, the monstrance, a crucifix, the oil lamps, the vases on the altar and a few statues of saints. A couple praying in the church at the time were also reportedly beaten by the intruders. Two nuns were also reportedly injured.
