The Donnell Fire was a wildfire that started on August 1, 2018 due to an unattended illegal campfire, near Donnell Reservoir, burning around California State Route 108 in Tuolumne County, California and in the Stanislaus National Forest. It spread rapidly, and the Forest Service closed a California state highway, many forest service roads, campgrounds, wilderness areas, access to privately-owned inholdings, and the Pacific Crest Trail. The fire burned 36,450 acres (147.5 km2), and destroyed 54 major structures and 81 minor structures, before the fire burned out on October 1. There were nine injuries caused by the fire, but no deaths.

At 12,285 feet (3,744 m) elevation, it is the tallest peak in the craggy Alps-like Sawtooth Ridge and the northernmost 12,000-foot (3,700 m) peak in the Sierra Nevada. Pinecrest is an unincorporated community in the Stanislaus National Forest in Tuolumne County, California, United States. Pinecrest is located near Pinecrest Lake northeast of Mi-Wuk Village. Pinecrest Lake sits in what was once a meadow surrounded by granite outcroppings. Originally, Pinecrest Lake was called Strawberry Flat because of the wild strawberries that once grew there. In the 1960s the name was officially changed to Pinecrest. Pinecrest is a community of USFS Recreation Residences authorized by the United States Forest Service under the Occupancy Permits Act. The campground adjacent to the lake is under the white fir, cedar, and sugar pine trees.

The Great Sierra Mine Historic Site preserves the site of the largest mining operation in what would become Yosemite National Park. The mine was located on Tioga Hill on the crest and eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada, one of several claims intended to work the Sheepherder silver lode. The Sheepherder lode was discovered in 1860, and rediscovered by shepherd Thomas Brusky Jr., who staked a number of claims in the area. In 1881 all of the claims were bought out by the Great Sierra Consolidated Silver Mining Company and established the company town of Dana. Due to the 11,000 foot altitude the town was soon relocated to the bottom of the hill at Bennettville.

The Soda Springs Cabin is a historic structure in Yosemite National Park in the US, built over Soda Springs. It was built around the year 1889 by John Baptist Lembert, the first white settler on the Tuolumne Meadows area of Yosemite. Lembert had filed a claim to 160 acres (65 ha) in Tuolumne Meadows in 1885 after spending three summers in the area with a flock of angora goats. He built a log cabin directly over the largest soda spring in the area. Although the property was within the park boundaries, Lembert received a patent to the property in 1895. Lembert's cabin was built along the Great Sierra Wagon Road over the Sierra Nevada. He also became a guide for tourists in the high country, gaining a reputation as a naturalist and entomologist. He spent the winter months near Cascade Creek in the Yosemite Valley.

The Tioga Pass Entrance Station is the primary entrance for travelers entering Yosemite National Park from the east on the Tioga Pass Road. Open only during the summer months, the entrance station consists of two historical buildings, a ranger station and a comfort station, built in 1931 and 1934 respectively. Both are rustic stone structures with peeled log roof structures, and are examples of the National Park Service rustic style employed at the time by the National Park Service. Two log gate structures that had been removed since the site's original construction were rebuilt in 1999; the stone piers that supported them remain. The use of stone at Tioga Pass set a precedent for the extensive employment of stone construction in other park buildings in the Yosemite high country. Civilian Conservation Corps workers assisted in the entrance station's construction.

The fire ignited on August 17, 2013, amid the 2013 California wildfire season, and burned 257,314 acres (402 sq mi; 104,131 ha; 1,041 km2) in largely remote areas of the Sierra Nevada, including a large portion of Yosemite National Park. The Rim Fire was fully contained on Thursday, October 24, 2013, after a nine-week suppression effort by firefighters. Due to a lack of winter rains, some logs smoldered in the interior portion of the fire footprint throughout the winter, and more than a year passed before the fire was declared extinguished in November 2014.

Cherokee, California is a historical mining town site in Tuolumne, California in Tuolumne County, California. The site of the Cherokee, California is a California Historical Landmark No. 410 listed on December 11, 1949. The Scott brothers, descendants of the Cherokee Tribe, discovered gold in 1853 in Tuolumne County. Soon many placer mines started in the valley of Cherokee and the town of Cherokee was founded. When the placer gold panning (diggins) ran out, some quartz mines opened around Cherokee. Cherokee was the first mining town in the East Best of the California Mother Lode. Cherokee supported the other nearby mining camp of Independence, Little Jessie, Mary Ellen, Plowboy and Excelsior. At its peak Cherokee had a population of 700 in 1856. After the gold ran out the Scanvino brothers, Domingo and Ciovanni, from Italy, started a family farm that replaced Cherokee. Cherokee is now a neighborhood of Tuolumne City. A marker at the site was place there by the California Centennials Commission on December 11, 1949 (marker now maybe missing or moved).

The route was once recommended to continue south of Modesto to Interstate 5, although today that portion exists as a county road. The Byrne's Ferry bridge was a historic cantilevered covered bridge across the Stanislaus River between Calaveras County and Tuolumne County, California. Originally built during the California Gold Rush, the bridge was located on the O'Byrne's Ferry road between Chinese Camp and Copperopolis. Until the mid-20th century, it was one of the last remaining covered bridges in the state; the bridge was destroyed in 1957 (after an unsuccessful attempt to move it) to make way for the construction of Tulloch Dam.

Table Mountain is a narrow, 18 mi (29 km)-long, sinuous, flat-topped ridge separated by erosional saddles into a series of mesas that extend from Lake Tulloch to just west of Columbia, California in Tuolumne County, California. It is just over 1,100 ft (340 m) in elevation at its southern end and just over 2,000 ft (610 m) in elevation at its northern end. Its flat top is part of a stack of multiple 80 mi (130 km)-long lava flows that have been eroded to form a series of mesas that extend from Knights Ferry to Sonora, California. Its crest varies in width from a narrow ridge to over 1,100 ft (340 m) wide. It parallels the adjacent Stanislaus River.

Sonora Mono Toll Road is a historical road in Tuolumne County, California. The Sonora-Mono Road is a California Historical Landmark No. 422 listed on March 4, 1949. Sonora-Mono Road was 49 California Gold Rush road founded in 1852. The Tuolumne County Water Company started the road in 1852. On the road in Sugar Pine, California toll gate, hotel, and stables were built. The road to Bridgeport in Mono County was started in 1860 and completed in 1864. To complete a round trip on the road from Sonora and Bridgeport for a six-horse covered wagon took three weeks. for the round trip between Sonora and Bridgeport. Part of the road uses the Sonora Pass, that explorer Jedediah Smith in 1827.

Jacksonville, California is a historical farming town site in Chinese Camp, California in Tuolumne County, California. The site of the Jacksonville, California is a California Historical Landmark No. 419 listed on February 28, 1949. The town is now under the Don Pedro Reservoir formed in 1924. Jacksonville was founded by farmer Julian Smart along the Tuolumne River at an elevation of 800 feet . In spring 1849, Smart planted a garden and an orchard. Smart named the town Jacksonville after Colonel A. M. Jackson. The Tuolumne River provided water not only for the farms but the many 49 California Gold Rush mining operations in the region. In 1852 a US post office opened with a population of 252. The largest mine in the region was the Eagle-Shawmut mine.

The Great Sierra Wagon Road was a route through the Sierra Nevada in California, built to bring supplies to the Great Sierra Mine on Tioga Hill in the high country of what was to become Yosemite National Park. The road was built in 1882 by the Great Sierra Silver Mining Company, extending over 56.25 miles (90.53 km), in 130 days. The mine promptly shut down, leaving the road without a purpose. In 1915 the road was purchased by Stephen T. Mather, the independently wealthy first director of the National Park Service, who donated it to the Park Service. The Park Service opened the road to the public, calling it the Tioga Road. Designated California State Route 120, the road traverses the park from its west to east entrances.
