Temperance Flat Dam is a proposed dam project on the San Joaquin River west of Auberry, California. Construction of the dam is on hold. The dam's main purpose would be to supplement storage capacity in the upper San Joaquin River basin. Under the current proposal, Temperance Flat would slightly more than double water storage on the San Joaquin River from below Friant Dam. The project is highly controversial because it would flood scenic canyons and historic sites along the San Joaquin River, and impact upstream hydroelectricity generation. The Bureau of Reclamation estimates the construction costs will be between US$2.5 billion and $2.6 billion, while other estimates range from $2.96 billion up to $3.35 billion. At 665 feet (203 m), Temperance Flat Dam would be the second highest dam in California, and the fifth tallest dam in the United States.

The 2020 Creek Fire was a very large wildfire in central California's Sierra National Forest, in Fresno and Madera counties. One of the most significant fires of California's record-setting 2020 wildfire season, it began on September 4, 2020, and burned 379,895 acres (153,738 ha) over several months until it was declared 100% contained on December 24, 2020. The Creek Fire is the sixth-largest wildfire in recorded California history and the third-largest single fire—i.e. not part of a larger wildfire complex—following the 2021 Dixie Fire.

Diamond Peak is a 13,133-foot (4,003 m) mountain in the Sierra Nevada on the boundary between Fresno and Inyo Counties, California in the United States. It is on the Sierra Crest. The west side of Diamond Peak is located in Kings Canyon National Park, at the headwater of Woods Creek, and the east side is located in the Inyo National Forest.

Cardinal Mountain is a 13,396-foot-elevation (4,083-meter) mountain summit located on the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in northern California. It is situated on the common border of Fresno County with Inyo County, as well as the shared boundary of John Muir Wilderness and Kings Canyon National Park. It is 14 miles (23 km) south-southwest of the community of Big Pine, approximately one mile north of Taboose Pass, and one mile south-southeast of Split Mountain, which is the nearest higher neighbor. Cardinal Mountain ranks as the 73rd highest summit in California. The first ascent of the summit was made August 11, 1922, by George Downing Jr. The standard approach is via the Taboose Pass Trail, and the John Muir Trail passes west of this peak, providing an approach option to the mountain. The mountain's descriptive name was given by George R. Davis, a USGS topographer, on account of the brilliant red color of the roof pendant, like the red cap of a cardinal.

The Rough Fire was a major wildfire in Fresno County, California, and the largest of the 2015 California wildfire season. The fire was ignited by a lightning strike on July 31 and burned 151,623 acres (61,360 ha), largely in the Sierra National Forest and the Sequoia National Forest, before it was declared contained on November 6, 2015. At the time it occurred, the fire was the thirteenth largest in recorded California history.

The Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin (EDSJ) is a diocese of the Episcopal Church (TEC), located in central California with its headquarters in Fresno. It can trace its roots back to the earliest days of American settlement in California.

The Robert E. Lee Tree is the second largest giant sequoia in the Grant Grove section of Kings Canyon National Park, and the eleventh largest giant sequoia in the world. Richard Field, a Confederate lieutenant, named this tree in honor of Robert E. Lee around 1875. In 2020, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks removed references to the name in Park materials, in an effort to promote inclusiveness following the George Floyd protests; however, the name cannot be changed without the approval of Congress or the National Park Service.

General Grant Grove, a section of the greater Kings Canyon National Park, was established by the U.S. Congress in 1890 and is located in Fresno County, California. The primary attraction of General Grant Grove is the giant sequoia trees that populate the grove. General Grant Grove's best-known tree is called General Grant, which is 267 ft (81 m) tall and the third-largest known tree in the world. The General Grant tree is over 1,500 years old and is known as the United States' national Christmas tree. General Grant Grove consists of 154 acres (0.62 km²) and is geographically isolated from the rest of Kings Canyon National Park.

The Evans Grove Complex is a complex of seven giant sequoia groves located in the Kings River watershed on the southern slopes of Kings Canyon in Giant Sequoia National Monument (Sequoia National Forest). It is formed from the Evans, Lockwood, Little Boulder, Boulder, Kennedy, Windy Gulch, and Horseshoe Bend groves. The complex is home to a rich collection of old-growth giant sequoias covering a combined 2,270 acres (9.2 km²).

The General Noble Tree was a monumental giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) situated in the Converse Basin Grove, within the boundaries of the Giant Sequoia National Monument, in Fresno County, California. It was believed to be the biggest tree in the world before it was felled in 1892 to become an exhibition tree at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. It was the largest tree ever felled.

The Teakettle Experimental Forest is an experimental forest, part of the Sierra National Forest that is set aside for research into forest ecology. The forest is located 80 kilometres (50 mi) east of Fresno, California, between Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks. The area is old-growth forest at 2,000 to 2,800 metres (6,600 to 9,200 ft) elevation and consists primarily of mixed-conifer and red fir forest common on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada.

McKinley Grove is a small, isolated giant sequoia grove located about 12 km (7.5 mi) southeast of Dinkey Creek in the Kings River watershed of Sierra National Forest, California. The grove occupies a small bowl-shaped depression at an elevation of 1,925 m (6,316 ft).

State Route 41 (SR 41) is a state highway in the U.S. State of California, connecting the Central Coast with the San Joaquin Valley and the Sierra Nevada. Its southern terminus is at the Cabrillo Highway (SR 1) in Morro Bay, and its northern terminus is in Yosemite National Park. It has been constructed as an expressway from near SR 198 in Lemoore north to the south part of Fresno, where the Yosemite Freeway begins, passing along the east side of downtown and extending north into Madera County. The Anglican Diocese of San Joaquin (ADSJ) is a diocese in the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). It came into being after a majority of congregants in the Episcopal Diocese of San Joaquin separated from the Episcopal Church in 2007. Fort Washington is a census-designated place in Fresno County, California. Fort Washington sits at an elevation of 249 feet (76 m). The 2020 United States census reported Fort Washington's population was 255.

The Fresno Air Attack Base is an aerial firefighting base established in 1955 by the United States Forest Service (USFS) at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport. The 1980 Mammoth Lakes earthquakes affected Eastern California with the sequence's largest shock occurring on May 25 and measuring M_w 6.2. The mainshock and its strong aftershocks located near the Yosemite National Park area were felt in parts of California and Nevada. Nine people were injured and there was significant damage in Mammoth Lakes.

Thunderbolt Peak is a peak in the Palisades group located in the Sierra Nevada of California. It rises to 14,009 feet (4,270 m) and could be considered the thirteenth-highest peak in the state, but since the peak has less than 300 feet (91 m) of prominence it is usually considered a subsidiary peak of North Palisade. But if it is considered a separate mountain peak, Thunderbolt Peak is the northernmost fourteener in the Sierra Nevada.

Temple's Ranch, was the ranch and a home of F. P. F. Temple, a wealthy land owner in Los Angeles County, with large business and land holdings of thousands of acres in Madera County and Fresno County including this ranch in Fresno County near the Merced County border.

Squaw Valley-Miramonte is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) and a unique grape-growing region in Fresno County, California surrounding the towns of Yokuts Valley and Miramonte approximately 40 miles (64 km) east of the city of Fresno. It was established as the nation's 230^th, the state's 145^th and the county's second appellation on August 7, 2015 by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Treasury after reviewing the petition submitted by Christine Flannigan, owner of the Sierra Peaks Winery and Purgatory Vineyards, on behalf of the Squaw Valley Grape Growers Group, proposing the viticulural area named "Squaw Valley-Miramonte."

Millwood was a lumber boomtown located in present-day Sequoia National Forest near Converse Basin Grove in California. It was established in 1891 by the Kings River Lumber Company and was connected to the Sequoia Railroad, which brought logs to the town to be turned into rough lumber. The lumber was then transported by log flume to Sanger, a journey of 54 miles. At its peak, Millwood had a population of over 2,000 people and featured two hotels, a summer school, and a post office. However, today there are no remaining structures or buildings at the Millwood site.

State Route 201 (SR 201) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California that serves Fresno and Tulare counties in the Central Valley. It connects State Route 99 in Kingsburg with State Route 245 at Elderwood. State Route 201 forms a short concurrency with State Route 63 near Calgro.

Minkler is a census-designated place in eastern Fresno County, California, United States. The place is located on Highway 180, 2.25 miles (3.6 km) east-southeast of Centerville and 7.6 miles north of Reedley at an elevation of 397 feet (121 m). It has a population of 867 people, as of the 2020 census. The town is named for Charles O. Minkler, a local farmer.

San Joaquin Light and Power Corporation Building is an historic 11-story, 52.8 m (173 ft) high-rise in downtown Fresno, California. The building was completed in 1923 for the San Joaquin Light and Power Corporation, which later became the Pacific Gas and Electric Company, by chief designer Raymond R. Shaw of the R.F. Felchlin Company. The building is the fourth tallest in the city.

The Pacific Southwest Building (also known as the Security Bank Building) is a 15-story, 67 m (220 ft) high-rise completed in 1925 in downtown Fresno, California. The tower's antenna rises to 315 ft (96 m). Original construction took eighteen months and cost $1,200,000 for the headquarters for the Fidelity Branch of the Pacific-Southwest Trust and Savings Bank. Originally, a beacon on top of the tower served as a frost warning to farmers within a 30-mile radius. It is the tallest building in Fresno.

The M. Young Botanic Garden 2.5 acres (1.0 ha) is a botanical garden located at 14178 West Kearney, Kerman, California, United States. Every plant used is drought-tolerant. The Rusitigian Building, at Fulton and Mono Streets in Fresno, California, was built in 1920 in Classical Revival style architecture. Originally built as a bus depot, it was renovated and reopened 2019 for retail and restaurant tenants. It is listed as a historic place by Fresno's Local Register of Historic Resources.

The Fresno Memorial Auditorium, at 2425 Fresno St. in Fresno, California, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Besides the one contributing building, the listing included two contributing objects and a contributing site on 2.9 acres (1.2 ha).

The Physicians Building in Fresno, California, at 2607 Fresno St., was built in 1926. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

The Fresno County Jail is a detention center made up of three different adjacent complexes, located at 1225 M. Street, in downtown Fresno, California, operated by the Fresno County Sheriff's Department. The facility is made up of the Main Jail, the North Annex Jail, and the South Annex Jail and is connected by an underground system of tunnels providing easy and safe transportation of inmates. These tunnels also connect to the nearby Fresno County Courthouse. As of March 31, 2020, the Fresno County Jail had 2,746 inmates with 2,490 being male and 256 being female. The Fresno County Jail has recorded the highest number of deaths out of any county jail in California.

The Peerless Building, at 1755 Broadway Street in Fresno, California, was built in 1935. Originally built for pump manufacturing, sales and service, it was renovated and reopened 2018 as a mixed-use commercial space.

The Einstein House is a historic home in Fresno, California listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Architect Edward T. Foulkes designed the house, later known as the YWCA Activity Unit and the Joyce Gibson-Bennett Building.

The Kearney Bowl was a dirt oval racing track located in southwest Fresno, California. The track was paved for its final ten years of operation. It was known for midget racing and hosted United States Auto Club National Midget Championship series races as well as NASCAR supermodified hardtop races. In 1970, the entire facility was demolished and a housing complex and a school was built on the site.

Ani-Jam was an annual two-day anime convention held during August at the Fresno Convention Center in Fresno, California.

The Big Fresno Fair, founded in 1884, is an annual fair held at the Fresno County Fairgrounds. The Big Fresno Fair is managed by the 21st District Agricultural Association, an entity of the California Department of Food and Agriculture Division of Fairs & Expositions. It is the largest annual event in the San Joaquin Valley, attracting around 600,000 people each October during its twelve-day run featuring exhibits, a livestock show, live horse racing, musical entertainment, educational programs and more. The Fair serves as a bridge between urban and rural California, educating visitors about the region's vibrant agricultural industry. Its mission is to "Educate, Celebrate and Have Fun".

The Hotel Fresno is a historic hotel located at 1241-1263 Broadway Plaza in downtown Fresno, California. It is the oldest surviving hotel in the city, built in 1912. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.

The Meux Home is a historic mansion located in Fresno, California. It was the residence of Thomas Richard Meux, a physician who served Fresno in the initial stages of the city's growth.

Fresno Municipal Sanitary Landfill in Fresno, California, was the first modern landfill in the U.S., pioneering the use of trenching, compacting, and daily burial to combat rodent and debris problems. It became a model for other landfills around the country, and one of the longest-lived. The landfill was operated by the City of Fresno from 1937 until 1987, when it was closed. At that time, the landfill had reached the size of 145 acres (0.59 km²).

The Fresno Bee Building is a historic 5-story building located at Van Ness and Calaveras Street in downtown Fresno, California. It was built in 1922 by architect Leonard F. Starks to house the offices and printery for The Fresno Bee newspaper.

Conejo Valley Airport, also known as Janss Airport, was an airport in Thousand Oaks, California. It had a 2,600 ft (790 m) runway and was located adjacent to Thousand Oaks Boulevard. The airport opened in 1926, but was relocated in the early 1960s. The new airport, known as Rancho Conejo Airport, was established on the north side of State Highway 101. Various movies were filmed at Conejo Valley Airport, including The Paleface (1948), Riders of the Whistling Pines (1949) and Overland Stage Raiders (1938). Rancho Conejo Airport appeared in the film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963).

KFSN-TV (channel 30) is a television station in Fresno, California, United States. It is owned and operated by the ABC network through its ABC Owned Television Stations division, and maintains studios on G Street in downtown Fresno; its transmitter is located on Bear Mountain, near Meadow Lakes, California. The station originally operated as KFRE-TV from 1956 to 1971 when new owners changed the call sign to KFSN-TV.

Mercey Hot Springs (formerly Mercy Hot Springs) is an unincorporated community and historical hot springs resort in the Little Panoche Valley of Fresno County, central California, about 60 miles (97 km) west-southwest of Fresno.

The Ciervo Hills are a low mountain range in west Fresno County, in the western San Joaquin Valley of central California.

The 1991 Interstate 5 dust storm was a dust storm which occurred on November 29, 1991, along Interstate 5 (I-5) north of the city of Coalinga, California. The storm caused a 104-vehicle traffic collision on the highway which killed 17 people and injured 150.

Rancho Laguna de Tache was a 48,801-acre (197.49 km²) Mexican land grant in present-day Fresno County and Kings County, California given in 1846 by Governor Pío Pico to Manuel Castro. The grant is named for the lake of the Tachi band of the Yokuts people. The grant extended along the north bank of the Kings River from Kingsburg down river for twenty six miles, and included the present-day Laton, Riverdale and Lanare. This grant is not to be confused with the grant of the same name on the South side of Kings River later claimed by Joseph Yves Limantour.

Helm Field also called Lemoore Auxiliary Army Airfield A-7 is a former US Army Airfield use for training during World War II. Helm Field was location in the town of Coalinga, California, 70 miles south of Fresno. Helm Field had two 3,000 foot runways, one oriented east/west and one oriented northwest–southeast. The Airfield was on a 773 acres site of form farm land. The US Army purchased the land on January 11, 1943 for training pilots. The Airfield was used by the Lemoore Basic Flying School, based at the Lemoore Army Air Field. Helm Field was 15 miles northwest of Lemoore Army Air Field. The Army built at Helm Field to support training stage house, control tower, motor pool building, crash truck shelter and latrines. Helm Field was used by Air Corps Basic Flying School, the AAF Basic Flying School, the AAF Pilot School, the 88th Air Base Squadron, the 3023rd Army Air Force Pilot School and the 461st Army Air Force Base Unit. The army closed Helm Field on October 15, 1844 and the Airfield was sold by the War Assets Administration. Helm Field was used as a farm labor camp in the 1950s. The east–west runway was returned to farmland. The northwest–southeast runway was still intact and was used as a civilian airfield till 1971.

Murrieta Spring is a historic spring flowing from the south bank of Cantua Creek, about 100 yards above where El Camino Viejo crossed the Creek in the San Joaquin Valley. The Spring formed a pool in the arroyo where it emerged from the foot of the eastern mountains of the Diablo Range, a mile above where formerly California State Route 33, now South Derrick Avenue, crosses Cantua Creek. This is where Harry Love and his detachment of California Rangers found the gang of Joaquin Murrieta at the spring and attacked them on July 25, 1853.

Joaquin Rocks are a group of three pillars of rock, originally known as "Las Tres Piedras" (The Three Rocks), located on Joaquin Ridge, in the Diablo Range, in Fresno County, California. The Joaquin Rocks are at an elevation of 4,121 feet (1,256 meters), and are the most distinguishing feature of Joaquin Ridge. The three pillars of rock are clearly visible on the ridge for many miles from many directions in the San Joaquin Valley and from their summits have a view of much of the valley. It is located, 3 miles (4.8 km) west-northwest of Black Mountain (Anticline Ridge) and 3 miles (4.8 km) southwest of Ragged Valley.

Ragged Valley is a valley in the Diablo Range of Fresno County, California, named for the ragged appearance of its surface. It is bound on the east by the Big Blue Hills and on the west by Joaquin Ridge, extending northwesterly from its large mouth at Domengine Creek to the divide between Salt Creek and Cantua Creek where it heads at 36°21′42″N 120°25′25″W.

The Tesla battery station was a demonstration site at Harris Ranch where Tesla performed traction motor battery swapping as an alternative to recharging its vehicles. The site opened in March 2015 and operated by appointment only but showed little demand by June 2015; it was closed permanently before November 2016.

Aguaje de Pedro Etchegoen was an aguaje (a watering place), a little to the west of El Camino Viejo eight miles north of Poso de Chane where Pedro Etchegoen later established his sheep ranch. It was the only reliable watering place between the Poso and Cantua Creek. The Etchegoen or Etchegoin Ranch remained in the hands of his family up until the time of the Fresno oil boom. A Fresno Township map of 1907 shows it in the hands of William Etchegoen.

Joaquin Spring, originally known as Valenzuela Spring, is a spring on Joaquin Ridge in the Diablo Range in Fresno County, California. The spring is located on the southwestern slope of the ridge, about 500 feet below Joaquin Rocks, at an elevation of 3,520 feet (1,070 meters).

The Anticline Ridge is a ridge, southeast of Joaquin Ridge, declining from its 3,629 foot / 1,106 meter high point, Black Mountain in the north at 36°18′16″N 120°24′12″W, to the southeast into low hills bound on the southeast by Los Gatos Creek that divides it from the Guijarral Hills. It is located in the inner California Coast Ranges, in Fresno County, California, east of the town of Coalinga. Anticline Ridge and Guijarral Hills divides Pleasant Valley from the San Joaquin Valley to the east. California State routes 33 and 198, which join together for the stretch through and north of Coalinga, cut across the Coalinga field and cross Anticline Ridge.

The Big Blue Hills are a low mountain range in west Fresno County, in the western San Joaquin Valley of central California.

Harris Ranch, or the Harris Cattle Ranch, feedlot is California's largest beef producer, producing 150 million pounds (68 kt) of beef per year in 2010. It is located alongside Interstate 5 at its intersection with State Route 198 east of Coalinga, in the San Joaquin Valley of central California. The ranch is owned by Harris Farms.

On January 28, 1948, a DC-3 aircraft operated by Airline Transport Carriers with 32 persons on board, mostly Mexican farm laborers, including some from the bracero guest worker program, crashed in the Diablo Range, 20 miles west of Coalinga, California, killing all passengers and crew. The crash inspired the song "Deportee" by Woody Guthrie.

The Atlas Asbestos Mine Superfund Site is located within the Clear Creek Management Area near Fresno County, eighteen miles northwest of Coalinga, California. The mine started operating in 1963, covering 435 acres of a large naturally occurring asbestos deposit. The mine closed in 1979 and was placed in the EPA's National Priorities List (NPL) in 1983 due to the pollution of asbestos in the surrounding soil, air and water creating potential health hazards for local populations and environment.

Joaquin Ridge is a ridge in the Diablo Range in Fresno County, California. The ridge is named for Joaquin Murietta (1830-1853), a California Gold Rush bandit, leader of the Five Joaquins Gang, who used this region as a rendezvous and camp that overlooked the gangs base at the Rancho de Cantua. The ridge is ten miles long, running from its high point at 36°19′48″N 120°34′09″W, east of Spanish Lake, eastward to Joaquin Rocks 36°19′11″N 120°27′32″W, and then southwestward to 36°18′15″N 120°24′11″W near 3,629-foot Black Mountain at 36°18′16″N 120°24′12″W the high point on the south southeast trending Anticline Ridge. Joaquin Ridge is bound on the northeast by the Ragged Valley and the Big Blue Hills and on the southwest by Portuguese Canyon. Its highest elevation is 4,701 feet (1,433 meters), 0.64 km (0.40 mi) east of Spanish Lake.

State Route 198 (SR 198) is an east–west state highway in the U.S. state of California that runs from U.S. Route 101 (US 101) south of King City to Generals Highway in Sequoia National Park. It connects the California Central Coast to the mid–Central Valley through Hanford and Visalia, although the most developed portion is in the Central Valley itself. SR 198 intersects the major north–south routes in the Central Valley, including Interstate 5 (I-5), SR 33, and SR 99.

State Route 269 (SR 269) is a state highway in the U.S. state of California. It runs in the San Joaquin Valley from State Route 33 in Avenal to State Route 145 in the community of Five Points.

Black Mountain, is a ridge in the Diablo Range of southwestern Fresno County, California, south of Reef Ridge. Its east end begins about 1.25 miles west of Zwang Peak, and runs at elevations over 4000 feet, with the mid ridge rising to 4345 feet, westerly about 3.25 miles to Castle Mountain at an elevation of 4343 feet. It then turns west northwest 2 miles at elevations above 3790 feet with several peaks over 3800 feet and one over 3900 feet along the length of it. There it is linked to the next east west mountain ridge extending east from Mustang Peak. The high point of the ridge is 7.7 miles (12.4 km) north northeast of Parkfield, California.

Poso de Chane or Poso Chane (Chane Pool) is a former settlement in Fresno County, California situated around the waterhole of that name, northwest just below the confluence of the Jacalitos Creek with Los Gatos Creek, 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Coalinga and northwest of the Guijarral Hills.

The Guijarral Hills Oil Field is a formerly-productive oil and gas field near Coalinga on the western side of the Central Valley in central California in the United States. Discovered in 1948, and having produced 5.4 million barrels (860,000 m³) of oil during its peak year in 1950, it now has but one active oil well producing a little over a barrel of oil a day, and is very near to exhaustion, with only 343,000 recoverable barrels of oil remaining throughout its 2,515-acre (10.18 km²) extent according to the official California State Department of Conservation estimate. As of 2010, the only active operator was Longview Production Company.

The Guijarral Hills are a range of low hills in the inner California Coast Ranges, in Fresno County, California, about seven miles east of the town of Coalinga. Guijarral is derived from a Spanish word meaning "heap of pebbles".

The Jacalitos Hills are a low mountain range in western Fresno County, central California. They are located south of Coalinga, California.

The Coalinga Polk Street School, in Coalinga, California, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 and destroyed by an earthquake in 1983.
