The Newport Historic District is a national historic district in Newport and Oliver Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, United States. It consists of a large residential neighborhood of primarily vernacular working-class homes, a commercial area, industrial buildings, public buildings, three bridges, and a cemetery. Of the 418 contributing buildings, 361 are residences. Notable commercial buildings include the Graham Hotel (1871), Butz Building (1875), and Centennial Building (1876). The remains of the Jones Warehouse date prior to 1820 and are a part of the David M. Myers Warehouse.

The Conococheague Mountain Tunnel was a proposed railroad tunnel in Perry County, Pennsylvania. It was originally planned as part of the Path Valley Railroad, with the intent to link the Newport and Shermans Valley Railroad with the East Broad Top Railroad and the Tuscarora Valley Railroad further west. Only about 100 feet of either end of the planned 2600 foot tunnel was completed in 1894. The partially completed tunnel exists in Big Spring State Forest Picnic Area and Tuscarora State Forest. The north portal of the tunnel is still visible, but fenced off.

Saville Township is a second-class township in a mountainous part of Perry County, Pennsylvania, United States. As of the 2010 census, the township had a total population of 2,502. It was founded in 1817, dividing from Tyrone Township while the area was still part of Cumberland County. It is served by two major roads, PA 74, locally called Veterans Way, and PA 17, called the Tuscorara Path. The county office is at 3954 Veterans Way, in Elliottsburg, in the far southern part of the township. The area is overwhelmingly agricultural, with small population centers in Ickesburg and the hamlet of Saville.

Newport High School is a diminutive, rural, public high school located in Newport, Pennsylvania. It is part of the Newport School District. Newport High School serves: the borough of Newport; Buffalo Township, Howe Township, Juniata Township, Miller Township, and Oliver Township. In 2016, enrollment continued to decline with just 311 pupils in 9th through 12th grades, with 47% of pupils eligible for a free lunch due to the family meeting the federal federal poverty level. Additionally, 22% of pupils received special education services, while 2.89% of pupils were identified as gifted. The school employed teachers. Per the PA Department of Education, 100% of the teachers were rated "Highly Qualified" under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. The district provides Newport Cyber Academy Program (NCAP) to its high school pupils. Student who choose this option continue to have access to all school activities including extracurriculars.

It comprises a number of sites and structures which date from the iron-making era prior to 1850 when the settlement was known as Juniata Furnace. These include the remains of the iron furnace complex, Superintendent's House (1861), cemetery, first and second levels of the Blue Ball Tavern, covered bridge known as Wahneta's of Clay's Bridge, and the hiking trail that was once the bed of the Newport and Shermans Valley Railroad.

The Millersburg Ferry, also known as the Kramer-Crow Ferry, is the last operating ferry on the Susquehanna River. It crosses the river between Millersburg in Dauphin County and Buffalo Township in Perry County, Pennsylvania in the United States. The ferry was established in the early 19th century. The Millersburg Ferry crossing was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. Its ferry boat is believed to be the last "wooden double stern-wheel paddle boat" to be operating in the United States. It is owned by the Millersburg Chamber of Commerce and operated by the Millersburg Ferryboat Association from May until October when water levels permit.
