Portland Estates is a suburban neighbourhood in Woodlawn, an area of eastern Dartmouth in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. It reaches from Eisener Blvd. in the west, all the way to Portland Hills in the east, and is located to the south of Portland Street (Route 207).

Portland Hills is a subdivision in Dartmouth Nova Scotia that is part of the Halifax Regional Municipality. It is located east of Morris Lake and Portland Estates. It formed in 2001-2008 as an extension of the community of Portland Estates along Portland Street (Route 207). The neighbourhood is home to the Portland Hills Centre. Running through Portland Hills is Birches Park, which includes the Portland Hills Greenway 2.2 kilometre trail.

Manor Park is a neighbourhood of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. The main entrance to the neighbourhood is from the east on Portland Street (Route 207). A secondary entrance, from the west, is by way of Celtic Drive, rising from the low-lying area around Lake Banook.

The Raid on Dartmouth (also referred to as the Dartmouth Massacre) occurred during Father Le Loutre's War on May 13, 1751, when a Mi'kmaq and Acadian militia from Chignecto, under the command of Acadian Joseph Broussard, raided Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, destroying the town and killing twenty British villagers and wounding British regulars. The town was protected by a blockhouse on Blockhouse Hill (close to the corner of King St. and North St.) with William Clapham's Rangers and British regulars from the 45th Regiment of Foot. This raid was one of seven Miꞌkmaq and Acadians would conduct against the town during the war.

Queen Square is an office building in downtown Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, part of the Halifax Regional Municipality. At 18 floors (there is no 13th floor), Queen Square is the tallest building in the downtown Dartmouth area, and is located on Alderney Drive across from Alderney Gate. The building was constructed in 1975.

The Raid on Dartmouth (1749) occurred during Father Le Loutre's War on September 30, 1749 when a Mi'kmaw militia from Chignecto raided Major Ezekiel Gilman's sawmill at present-day Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, killing four workers and wounding two. This raid was one of seven the Wabanaki Confederacy and Acadians would conduct against the settlement during the war.

Fort Clarence (formerly the Eastern Battery) was a British coastal fort built in 1754 at the beginning of the French and Indian War in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada. The battery was built on the grant of Capt. John Rous. Governor Edward Cornwallis’ principal engineer John Brewse designed the fort which was 35 to 40 feet above sea level - at the start there was a small battery of seven 12-pounder smooth bore cannon. In spring 1759, a Mi'kmaq attack on the Eastern Battery killed five soldiers.

The Quaker Whaler House is the oldest building in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia (1785). Built by William Ray, a Quaker and cooper from Nantucket who moved to Dartmouth in 1785-86 as a whaler. Its materials and construction methods closely resembles Quaker architecture in Nantucket, such as the asymmetrical facade design and stone foundation. The Quakers settled in Dartmouth for six years (1786-1792) before many of them left for England. The most well-known Quaker was abolitionist Lawrence Hartshorne.

Halifax Transit is a Canadian public transport service operating buses and ferries in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The area was built in early 1970s across Portland Street (Route 207) from Portland Estates. It was named after the Nantucket Whaling Company which was once situated on Halifax Harbour.

The Dartmouth Marine Slips was an historic shipyard and marine railway which operated in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia between 1859 and 2003. It was noted for important wartime work during the American Civil War as well as during the Battle of the Atlantic in World War II. After its closure, the site began redevelopment as King's Wharf, a high-rise residential development.

Wright's Cove is a cove on the Dartmouth side of Bedford Basin in Halifax Harbour Nova Scotia Canada within the Halifax Regional Municipality. Located in the cove is the Dartmouth Yacht Club, an Ultramar wharf, a Gypsum loading facility operated by National Gypsum Company and a Canadian Forces armament depot . The cove is sheltered from Bedford Basin by Navy Island and Sheppard's Island. It is the birthplace of George Henry Wright.

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education (formerly the Halifax Regional School Board) is the public school district responsible for 136 elementary, junior high, and high schools located in the Halifax Regional Municipality. The current Regional Executive Director is Steve Gallagher. The district's office is on Spectacle Lake Drive in Dartmouth. The district's stated vision is "to provide a high quality education to every student every day". On January 24, 2018, the provincial government announced that the Halifax Regional School Board would be dissolved and that kindergarten to grade 12 education services in Halifax would administered by an appointed provincial council. The Halifa Regional School Board was dissolved on March 31, 2018.

The Dartmouth Refinery is a former oil refinery in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, owned by Imperial Oil. It was located on the eastern side of Halifax Harbour, and the crude oil arrived via ship. It covered some 400 hectares (990 acres) south of central Dartmouth, with the neighbourhood around it being known as Imperoyal.

Burnside Drive is a four-lane divided roadway, with a speed limit of 80 km/h, that serves the Burnside Business Park in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) community of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The road parallels Highway 118, running north from exit 3 of Highway 111 to Akerley Boulevard, a western extension of Highway 107. Although some maps produced by the province show Burnside Drive, as well as a portion of Akerley Boulevard, as part of Highway 107, these roads are actually maintained by the HRM, and Highway 107 becomes Akerley Boulevard about halfway between Highway 118 and Burnside Drive.

Westphal is an unincorporated community located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and outside of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Some of Westphal is considered part of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and some of it is considered separate from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The area is bound by Port Wallace in the north, Waverley Road (Route 318) in the west, Lake Major Road in the east, and Main Street (Trunk 7) in the south. The area also includes the watershed and water filtration plant for the Halifax Regional Water Commission that supplies drinking water for the residents of Dartmouth and surrounding communities east of Halifax Harbour.

Russell Lake West is a planned residential subdivision and commercial development in the eastern part of the community of Dartmouth in the Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia. The area began construction in 2006 with the creation of Exit 8 on Highway 111, providing access from the southwest to the area via Mount Hope Avenue, which, as of October 2011, also provides direct access into Woodside Industrial Park. Russell Lake West is located next to the community of Woodside. Walking trails provide direct access to and from Woodside. The subdivision covers 251 ha (620 acres), and houses approximately 3,200 people.
