Construction began in 1858 for John Sweek, who donated the land for Tualatin's original townsite. While the house is named after Sweek, his wife Maria managed the construction; Sweek had been off in Idaho for six years.

Situated next to Hedges Green Shopping Center on Southwest Boones Ferry Road, it is the fourth station southbound on the commuter rail line, which operates between Beaverton and Wilsonville in the Portland metropolitan area's Washington County. The station includes a 129-space park and ride and connections with the Tualatin Shuttle and TriMet bus routes 76–Hall/Greenburg and 97–Tualatin–Sherwood Rd. WES connects with the Blue and Red lines of MAX Light Rail at Beaverton Transit Center.

It opened on May 19, 2005, and is located in one of the Portland metropolitan area's most affluent areas. Bridgeport Village is a lifestyle center with a variety of services, including valet service, restaurant reservations, a courtesy shuttle to vehicles, and umbrellas available to borrow for free. Upon opening, the center features a water and fire fountain, and an Italian gazebo and kiosks by Neri. The center went through a refresh project in 2022 which saw the removal of the fountain, Italian gazebo, and kiosks which were replaced by a "village green," covered canopies, and a wood kids play area.
