The Pig War was a confrontation in 1859 between the United States and the United Kingdom over the British–U.S. border in the San Juan Islands, between Vancouver Island (present-day Canada) and the Washington Territory (present-day State of Washington). The Pig War, so called because it was triggered by the shooting of a pig, is also called the Pig Episode, the Pig and Potato War, the San Juan Boundary Dispute, and the Northwestern Boundary Dispute. Despite being referred to as a "war", there were no human casualties on either side.

It lies just offshore to the east-northeast of the town of Friday Harbor, Washington. San Juan Islands National Monument is a U.S. National Monument located in the Salish Sea in the state of Washington. The monument protects archaeological sites of the Coast Salish peoples, lighthouses and relics of early European American settlers in the Pacific Northwest, and biodiversity of the island life in the region. The monument was created from existing federal land by President Barack Obama on March 25, 2013 under the Antiquities Act.

Upright Channel Park is a former unit of the Washington State Park System consisting of 20 acres (8.1 ha) of island, beach, and tidelands on Upright Channel in the northwest corner of Lopez Island. The park was not listed as a Washington State Parks property as of March 2014. San Juan County assumed management of the property per a memorandum of understanding in May 2014.
The Little Red Schoolhouse on Shaw Island, Washington was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Elwha Rock is a submerged rock in Puget Sound. It lies in Cayou Channel (formerly known as Harney Channel) just west of Orcas Island's Grindstone Harbor at a depth of 5 feet (1.5 m) mean low water.

Griffin Bay State Park in San Juan County, Washington was a marine park with two campsites in the Washington State Parks. It consisted of 15 acres (6.1 ha) with 340 feet (100 m) of saltwater shoreline. It was part of the Cascadia Marine Trail and campsites were restricted to visitors arriving by human- and wind-powered watercraft. Though the state parks department still owned the land as of August, 2014, the park is no longer listed on the state parks website.

The Lime Kiln Light is a functioning navigational aid located on Lime Kiln Point overlooking Dead Man's Bay on the western side of San Juan Island, San Juan County, Washington, in the United States. It guides ships through the Haro Straits and is part of Lime Kiln Point State Park, which offers tours during summer months.

Rosario is the former estate of Seattle mayor and shipbuilder Robert Moran and is located on Orcas Island, Washington in the San Juan archipelago. Portions of the estate became part of Moran State Park in the early 1920s and the site has been of use as the Rosario Resort and Spa since 1960. The estate was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.

Cotton Point Island is a 0.25-acre (0.10 ha) island in Washington State, a few meters offshore of Cotton Point on Orcas Island. It is part of the San Juan Islands National Monument and owned by Bureau of Land Management, perhaps its smallest holding in Washington.
Afterglow Vista (also known as the McMillin Memorial Mausoleum and Afterglow Mausoleum) is a mausoleum located in San Juan County, Washington, United States, near Friday Harbor and Roche Harbor. It is the final resting place of businessman John S. McMillin, his wife and children, and one of the family's employees. The design of the mausoleum incorporates numerous instances of symbolism, some of it Masonic in nature.
