County Kildare

The Irish National Stud (official name: Comhlacht Graí Náisiúnta na hÉireann Teo.) is a Thoroughbred horse breeding facility in Tully, Kildare, County Kildare, Ireland. It was formally established by incorporation on 11 April 1946 under the National Stud Act, 1945 and is owned by the Irish Government.

The Curragh ( KURR-ə; Irish: An Currach [ənˠ ˈkʊɾˠəx]) is a flat open plain in County Kildare, Ireland. This area is well known for horse breeding and training. The Irish National Stud is on the edge of Kildare town, beside the Japanese Gardens. Pollardstown Fen, the largest fen in Ireland, is of particular interest to botanists and ecologists because of the numerous bird species that nest and visit there. There are also many rare plants that grow there.

The service operates domestic and foreign intelligence sections, providing intelligence to the Government of Ireland concerning threats to the security of the state and the national interest from internal and external sources.

The Army Ranger Wing (ARW) (Irish: Sciathán Fianóglach an Airm, "SFA") is the special operations force of the Irish Defence Forces, the military of Ireland. It is a branch of the Irish Army, but it also selects personnel from the Naval Service and Air Corps. It serves at the behest of the Defence Forces and Government of Ireland, operating internally and overseas, and reports directly to the Chief of Staff. The ARW was established in 1980 with the primary role of counter terrorism and evolved to both special operations and counter-terrorism roles from 2000 after the end of conflict in Northern Ireland. The unit is based in the Curragh Camp, County Kildare. The 2015 White Paper on Defence announced that the strength of the ARW would be considerably increased due to operational requirements at home and overseas.

The massacre of Mullaghmast (Irish: ár Mhullach maistean) was the mass killing of between 100 and 400 members of the Gaelic nobility of Ireland by English forces under the command of Sir Henry Sidney in Mullaghmast, County Kildare in either late 1577 or 1 January 1578. There is limited surviving documentation on the massacre, although documents have recently been made available at the National Library of Ireland.

The Racing Academy and Centre of Education (RACE) is a training academy and registered charity in Kildare, Ireland, which offers courses for jockeys and others involved in horseracing. Until 2023, RACE ran a 42-week residential course for aspiring jockeys and stable staff. Graduates of the course include Johnny Murtagh, Seamie Heffernan, Chris Hayes, Cathy Gannon, Daryl Jacob and Brian Hughes. In 2023 the academy was forced to close its residential blocks for safety reasons. As of 2025, RACE offers a six-week jockey preparation course (followed by a six-week placement with a trainer), as well as courses in equine nutrition, transport, schooling and administration. All courses are non-residential. There are also junior academy days.

The 2018 Eisenhower Trophy took place 5–8 September at the Carton House Golf Club in Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland. It was the 31st World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event with 72 three-man teams. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. Each team played two rounds on the Montgomerie and O'Meara courses. The leading teams played the Montgomerie course on the third day and the O'Meara course on the final day.

The club compete in the Leinster Senior League. In 2021, they reached the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup where they lost 4–0 against Bohemians.

Ballynafagh Lake (Irish: Loch Bhaile na Faiche) is a Special Area of Conservation and wildfowl sanctuary in County Kildare, close to the town of Prosperous in County Kildare, Ireland. This site is also known as the Blackwood Reservoir, the Blackwood Lake or the Prosperous Reservoir.

The Battle of Clonard occurred on 11 July 1798 near Leinster Bridge in the townland of Clonard New, County Kildare during the Irish Rising of that year. A combined force of between 2,000 and 4,000 United Irishmen engaged a force of 27 British loyalist militia troops led by Lieutenant Thomas Tyrrell over 6 hours in an attempt to cross the River Boyne. The defenders held the fortified house until they were reinforced by a Sergeant and 11 men of the Northumberland Fencibles and 15 men of the Kinnegad Cavalry under the command and including Lt Edward Haughton when the rebels were routed and retreated to Carbury, County Kildare. The attack on Clonard was a disastrous failure and a severe blow to the surviving rebels. Many of the County Kildare rebels returned to their homes while many of the Meath men were dissuaded from joining the rebellion by the defeat and due to much of their existing stocks of ammunition being wasted in the battle.

The Mouds Bog (Irish: Portach Mouds) Special Area of Conservation or SAC is a Natura 2000 site based close to the Hill of Allen and to Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland. The qualifying interests by which it is protected as an SAC are the presence of three habitat types: the presence of active raised bogs (priority habitat), the presence of degraded raised bogs still capable of natural regeneration, and the presence of depressions on peat substrates of Rhynchosporion vegetation.

The current church, built in 1820, consecrated in 1822 and extended in 1894, stands close to the site of a medieval church first mentioned in 1192. The church, which cost £900 to build, was financially assisted by the Board of First Fruits, and included extensive use of local granite.

Clane GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Clane, County Kildare, Ireland, winner of 17 Kildare county senior football championships, 16 county senior hurling championships and Kildare club of the year in 1975. Clane players are credited with bringing the handpass into Gaelic football.

Grangenolvin G.F.C. is a Gaelic football (GFC) club based in southern County Kildare, Ireland. The club's Senior Men's Team competes in the [[Kildare Senior Football League Division 2 and Kildare Intermediate Football Championship. Grangenolvin are a former AIB club of the year winner in 1985. Mick Carolan was chosen on the Kildare football team of the millennium and was a Cuchulainn All Stars Award winner in 1966. In 2023, the club re-established its LGFA Senior Women's Team.

Monasterevan G.F.C. is a Gaelic football club based in Monasterevin, County Kildare, Ireland. The club competes in the County Kildare GAA board league and cup system. They were Kildare "club of the year" in 1977. In 2012, Monasterevan G.F.C. won their first Leinster Intermediate Club Football Championship, beating Raheens in the county final on a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-07 and O’Connells of Louth 0-04 to 0-03 in the Leinster.

St Kevin's is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in the Kildare GAA based in Staplestown in North County Kildare, Ireland.

Caragh GFC, Prosperous is a Gaelic football club in Prosperous, County Kildare, Ireland, winner of three county senior football championships and the only club to play in five successive county finals, club of the year 1978 and home club of Larry Stanley, All Ireland medalist in 1919, Olympic athlete in 1924, first winner of the All-Time All-Star award for Gaelic Football and a member of the Kildare team of the millennium. Two of Kildare's winning All Ireland captains came from the club, Larry Stanley and Mick Buckley. Mick's grandson Niall played on the 1998 Kildare All Ireland team. Another county senior football title was lost on objection over a player that was "on the run" during the Civil War. Caragh and Raheens share a parish and while the Raheens grounds are in Caragh village, the Caragh grounds are in Prosperous.

Carbury GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland, winner of 11 Kildare county senior football championships and participants in eight successive county finals between 1965 and 1972. Ollie Crinnigan and (an All Star in 1978) and Pat Mangan (replacement All Star on two occasions) were on the Kildare football team of the millennium.

Clogherinkoe GFC is a Gaelic football club in County Kildare, Ireland, the first junior C champions to qualify for the Jack Higgins Cup final. They formed an area team with Johnstownbridge, St John's, which reached the semi-final of the senior football championship in 1978. Padraig Gravin was corner-forward on the 1998 Kildare All Ireland final team. Pat Tyrrell was a noted Kildare forward in the 1960s. John Lowry and John Donoghue were major players for the team throughout the 80's and 90's. Both played on the Kildare senior team for several seasons. These days the club now includes well known names such Aedan Boyle and Jack Robinson. Won an intermediate final v Kilcock in 2020 under the management of Ronan Quinn, Seamus Galligan and Jim Kelly. Currently competing at senior level under the new management of Mark Murnaghan. Amalgamated at underage with Johnstownbridge to form Balyna Juvenile Club.

Rheban is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club based in southwest County Kildare, Ireland, near Kilberry. The club has won the Kildare GAA "club of the year" award on several occasions, including in 1996 and 1997. They competed in the senior championship in the 1940s, reaching the semi-final in 1945, and after winning the Junior and Intermediate championships in successive years in 1996-7. The club takes its name from nearby Rheban Castle.

Athy GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in Athy, County Kildare, Ireland. The club has won seven Kildare Senior Football Championship titles.

Broadford is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland, winners of two senior hurling and 16 senior camogie titles. It enlists players from a radius of twenty miles from the Boyne bridge in Edenderry, Leinster bridge in Clonard, Blackwater bridge in Enfield and Barney Bridge in Allenwood. Mick Moore was selected at full-forward on the Kildare hurling team of the millennium.

Milltown is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Milltown, County Kildare, Ireland.

Éire Óg-Corrachoill (Irish pronunciation: [ˈeːɾʲə ˈoːɡ ˈkɔɾˠəxəl̠ʲ]; "Young Ireland-Prosperous") is a hurling club based in the parish of Caragh in County Kildare. The parish of Caragh includes the village of Caragh itself, surrounding townlands and Prosperous village which is situated about 3 km north-west from the village. The club is the result of an amalgamation which occurred in 1994 between Éire Óg of Caragh and Corra Choill of Prosperous. The first record of any kind of success in the Caragh parish area involves the Clongorey Campaigners. RIC records from 1890 show that Clongorey Campaigners had 38 members with Dan Kelly, John Murphy, Pat Fullam and James Kelly listed as officers. Clongorey reached the Senior Hurling Championship final in 1891 and but were defeated by Maynooth. Their home ground is in donore just opposite the motor racing circuit Mondello Park.

Barretstown is a not-for-profit camp for children with cancer and other serious illnesses located at Barretstown Castle, Ballymore Eustace, County Kildare, in Ireland. It was founded in 1994 by Hollywood actor Paul Newman and is a member of the SeriousFun Children's Network of camps across the world.

Rathcoffey is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland. Teresa Lynch, Nuala Malone and Eileen Reilly were selected on the Kildare camogie team of the century. Rathcoffey are currently a junior team in Kildare and are competing in the third league division of Kildare.

Round Towers GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club based in the town of Kildare, County Kildare, Ireland. The club has won 10 Kildare county senior football championships, six as Round Towers, three as Kildare and one as St Patrick's.

Coill Dubh Hurling Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club in County Kildare, Ireland, winner of eleven senior hurling championships. Three Coill Dubh players, Seamus Malone, Tony Carew and Tommy Carew were chosen on the Kildare hurling team of the millennium. The club played in every county final between 1990 and 2005 with the exception of 1992. Colm Byrne was selected on the Leinster hurling squad in 1997.

County Kildare (Irish: Contae Chill Dara) is a county in Ireland. It is in the province of Leinster and is part of the Eastern and Midland Region. It is named after the town of Kildare. Kildare County Council is the local authority for the county, which had a population of 246,977 at the 2022 census.
