At the time, it was the second deadliest accident involving the An-24 and remains the second deadliest aviation accident in Azerbaijani history. The engine failure had been caused by the effect of continuous overheating on the performance of the blades.

On 4 December 2015, a deadly fire broke out in the northern part of platform No. 10 at the western section of the Gunashli oilfield operated by SOCAR in the Caspian Sea. The fire started, according to SOCAR, when a high-pressure subsea gas pipeline was damaged in a heavy storm. As a result of the fire, the platform, which had been in service since 1984, partially collapsed. Fire spread to several oil and gas wells. Production at all 28 wells (24 oil wells and 4 gas wells) connected to the platform was suspended, pipelines connecting the platform to the shore were closed, and electricity to the platform was cut off. Before the incident, the platform produced 920 tonnes of oil and 1.08 million cubic metres (38 million cubic feet) of gas per day. About 60% of the oil produced by SOCAR was transported through this platform.

The monument to the sailors of the ship "Guba" – is a monument to the sailors who died as a result of the ship "Guba" sinking, which was conducting research in the Caspian Sea, at Cape Shuvelan on 14 September 1857. As a result of the crash, 22 crew members died, 57 people were rescued. After this tragedy, in order to ensure the safety of ships, the construction of lighthouses on Absheron began. The author of the monument's project, erected in 1889 in Shuvalan, was the architect Johann Edel.

The cemetery was located in the southwestern part of the Baku fortress, to the east of the Chemberekend village, a suburb of Baku, on the northeastern slope of the hill known as Pirvanzara. On the city plan of Baku in 1899, drawn up by the city engineer Colonel Nikolai von der Nonne, the cemetery during this period consisted of three sections: the northern section for Muslim burials, the central section for Armenians and Gregorians, and the southern section for Orthodox burials.
