Nakop is a small town and border post in northwestern South Africa on its border with Namibia. It lies ten kilometres north of the Orange River. In August 1914, the town was the site of the first conflict between German and South African troops in World War I over control of German South West Africa.

The Komsberg is a mountain range stretching east to west along the border of Northern Cape and Western Cape Provinces of South Africa. It lies north of Moordenaar's Karoo and forms part of an escarpment between the Roggeveld Mountains and the Nuweveld Mountains; at 45 km long, the Komsberg stretches from Verlatenkloof Pass to near the Dwyka River gorge. A tributary of the Gourits River, the Dwyka originates in the Komsberg. Komsberg Pass goes over the range, and its highest point is 1,742 m above sea level.
The battle of Kakamas took place in Kakamas, Northern Cape Province of South Africa on 4 February 1915. It was a skirmish for control of two river fords over the Orange River between contingents of a German invasion force and South African armed forces. The South Africans succeed in preventing the Germans gaining control of the fords and crossing the river.

The Kenhardt Solar Power Complex Station is a 540 MW (720,000 hp) solar power plant complex in South Africa. The complex comprises three power stations each with generation capacity of 180 megawatts. The three power plants feed their output into a battery energy storage system (BESS) with capacity of 225MW/1,140MWh, which modulates the power output to discharge a consistent 150 MW for 16.5 hours daily between the hours of 5am and 9.30pm.
