Piura (Spanish pronunciation: [ˈpjuɾa]) is a coastal department and region in northwestern Peru. The region's capital is Piura and its largest port cities, Paita and Talara, are also among the most important in Peru. The area is known for its tropical and dry beaches. It is the most populous department in Peru, its twelfth smallest department, and its fourth-most densely populated department, after Tumbes, La Libertad, and Lambayeque.

The city is served by the Cap. FAP Víctor Montes Arias Airport.

Estadio Miguel Grau is a multi-use stadium in Piura, Peru, built in 1958. It is currently used by football team Atlético Grau. Throughout the years the stadium has undergone many renovations, most recently for the Copa America 2004. For this international competition, the stadium capacity was raised to 25,500. Tambogrande is a small town in the Piura Province of the Piura Region in northwestern Peru. One of many small towns chosen as a site for mining development during Peru's mining boom in 1999, Tambogrande achieved prominence for successfully opposing the Manhattan Minerals mining development in the area. Compared to other regions, San Lorenzo has some significant advantages over its neighbors, including access to water and its location near the port of Paita. The city's main industry is the production of lemons and mangoes on the fertile land that surrounds the town, producing almost 40% of lemons in Peru and employing 65% of the population in its agricultural industry. Within the region, 70,000 inhabitants occupy it, and 16,000 inhabitants live in the town. Although there is no data that reports the poverty rate in Tambogrande, it is reported that in cities along the rural coastal area of Peru— such as Tambogrande—64% of inhabitants live on less than a dollar a day.
The Piura River is a river in northern Peru. The river flows westward from the Andes to the Pacific Ocean and is susceptible to major flooding. Piura is the largest city along the river's course.

The Bayóvar mine is a large mine in the Sechura Desert in the Piura Region of Peru. Bayóvar represents one of the largest phosphate reserves in Peru, having estimated reserves of 238 megatonnes (234,000,000 long tons; 262,000,000 short tons) of ore. Annual production can reach 3.9 Mt (3,800,000 long tons; 4,300,000 short tons) of phosphate concentrate at a minimum grade of 29% P2O5.
Illescas is a peninsula in northwestern Peru. It forms the southern boundary of the Sechura Bay, the largest bay in Peru. Sechura Bay also includes the northernmost portion of the Pacific Ocean that is under the influence of the Peru-Chile or Humboldt Current. The Illescas Peninsula is located in the department of Piura, and is scarcely inhabited. Part of Illescas was declared a reserved zone. Illescas is also the name given to the highest point of the peninsula (500 m.), the Cerro Illescas.

El 24 de diciembre de 2021 fue categorizada como Reserva Nacional mediante el Decreto Supremo N° 038-2021-MINAM.[2]

El Parque ecológico Kurt Beer es un parque ubicado en la ciudad de Piura, Perú.[1] Tiene una extensión de 75 hectáreas y cuenta con zoológico. Entre las especias de animales que alberga están venados, monos, osos de anteojos, gatos Montes, loros cabeza roja, pavos reales, monos leoncitos, caballos, achuni, aguilillas y ronsoco. También cuenta con crotos, acalifa verde y roja, cucardas, rosas, lluvias, algarrobo, zapote, ponciano, tamarindo, limonero y papaya. Asimismo posee un bosque de algarrobos.[2] Cerca se encuentra el humedal de Santa Julia en el cual habitan alrededor de 90 especies de aves.[3][4][5]
La iglesia de San Lucas es una iglesia católica ubicada en la localidad peruana de Colán, capital del distrito homónimo, ubicado en la provincia de Paita en el departamento de Piura. Su construcción se inició en 1535, lo que la convierte en la más antigua que se conserva en América del Sur. La obra fue llevada a cabo bajo la conducción de los padres dominicos llegados de Nicaragua, Bonifacio Escoquis e Indalecio Astorga. Fue erigida sobre un promontorio que albergaba un templo de la cultura Tallán. Es considerada la primera iglesia construida en las costas del Pacífico Sur. La construcción está con base en piedra caliza, cuenta con cuatro columnas de madera torneadas. Fue declarado Monumento Histórico Nacional en enero de 1983.[1] [2] [3] [4]
