The 2011 World Rowing Championships were World Rowing Championships that were held from 28 August to 4 September 2011 at Lake Bled, adjoining the Slovenian city of Bled. The annual week-long rowing regatta is organized by World Rowing Federation (FISA), and held at the end of the northern hemisphere summer. In non-Olympic Games years the regatta is the highlight of the international rowing calendar, and in the year prior to the Olympics it is the main qualification event for the following year's Olympics.

The Sava Dolinka is a headwater of the Sava River in northwestern Slovenia. The 45 kilometres (28 mi) long Sava Dolinka starts as Nadiža Creek in the Planica Valley under Mount Zadnja Ponca in the Julian Alps, at an elevation of 1222 m, close to the Italian border. The stream goes underground soon after its source and breaks out again after 5 km at an elevation of 842 m in Zelenci, near Kranjska Gora. The Sava Dolinka flows through Kranjska Gora, Gozd Martuljek, Jesenice, between Bled and Breg, and past the town of Lesce. The first in a series of hydroelectric power plants on the river, the Moste Hydro Power Plant (22.5 MW), is located near Žirovnica. It merges with the second major headwater of the Sava, the Sava Bohinjka, at Radovljica. Tributaries of the Sava Dolinka include the Triglav Bistrica at Mojstrana and the Radovna, which flows through the Vintgar Gorge near Bled.

Blejski otok je majhen apnenčast, z drevjem porasel otok na zahodni strani Blejskega jezera. Na vrhu otoka, na urejeni terasi, stoji srednjeveška, v baroku popolnoma prezidana Cerkev Marijinega vnebovzetja. Ob leta 2019 prenovljeni cerkvi stoji samostojen zvonik z baročno čebulasto kapo. Nedaleč stran, nad mogočnim stopniščem, sta dve hiši, nekdanji proštija in mežnarija, kapelica Matere Božje, kapelica Lurške Matere Božje, župnišče in manjši svetilnik, Površina otoka je 0,82 ha. Otok, ki stoji med Mlinom in Zako, se dviga do 18 metrov nad jezersko gladino.
