Sidirokastro (Greek: Σιδηρόκαστρο; Bulgarian Валовища Valovišta; Turkish: Demirhisar) is a town and a former municipality in the Serres regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Sintiki, of which it is the seat and a municipal unit. It is built near the fertile valley of the river Strymonas, on the bank of the Krousovitis River. It has a number of tourist sights, such as the medieval stone castle, Byzantine ruins, and natural spas.

Πήρε την ονομασία του από την αρχαία πόλη Ηρακλεία, η οποία εικάζεται ότι βρισκόταν στη θέση όπου σήμερα βρίσκεται η έδρα του δήμου Ηράκλεια.

The Struma or Strymónas (Bulgarian: Струма [ˈstrumɐ]; Greek: Στρυμόνας [striˈmonas];) is a river in Bulgaria and Greece. Its ancient name was Strymṓn (Greek: Στρυμών [stryˈmɔːn]). Its drainage area is 17,330 km2 (6,690 sq mi), of which 8,670 km2 (3,350 sq mi) in Bulgaria, 6,295 km2 (2,431 sq mi) in Greece and the remaining 2,365 km2 (913 sq mi) in North Macedonia and Serbia. It takes its source from the Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria, runs first westward, then southward, forming a number of gorges, enters Greece near the village of Promachonas in eastern Macedonia. In Greece it is the main waterway feeding and exiting from Lake Kerkini, a significant centre for migratory wildfowl. Also in Greece, the river entirely flows in the Serres regional unit into the Strymonian Gulf in Aegean Sea, near Amphipolis. The river's length is 415 kilometres (258 miles) (of which 290 kilometres (180 mi) in Bulgaria, making it the country's fifth-longest and one of the longest rivers that run solely in the interior of the Balkans.

Until 1928 was named "Vezniko" and from 1928 until 1940 "Monoiko". Its current name is Greek for "Holy Spirit." Well known modern Greek singer Glykeria was born in Agio Pnevma in 1953.

Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Serres, of which it is a municipal unit. It is located in the west-central part of the Serres regional unit and has a population of 4,125 inhabitants (2021 census) and a land area of 87.485 km². The seat of the municipality was the town of Provatas (pop. 829). Its other communities are Mitroúsi (pop. 1,599), Anagénnisis (523), Áno Kamíla (546), Vamvakiá (395) and Monokklisia (233).
Emmanouil Pappas (Greek: Εμμανουήλ Παππάς) is a municipality in the Serres regional unit, Greece. The seat of the municipality is in Chryso. The municipality takes its name after a local historical figure who played an important part as a leader in the Greek War of Independence against Ottoman rule. Emmanouil Pappas was born in the village that was previously called Dovista (Δοβίστα), probably of Slavic origin, though historians are uncertain of the exact root of that word. One conjecture involves the mispronunciation of the Latin 'Dove est', meaning 'where is it?', because, apparently, the village was undetectable from a distance.

Tumba (Greek: Τούμπα, Bulgarian and Macedonian: Тумба) is a peak in the Belasica mountains in the region of Macedonia. The peak, 1,880 metres (6,170 ft) in height, lies on Belasica's main ridge, west of Lozen Peak and east of Sechena Skala Peak. A dome-shaped mountain with steep southern and northern slopes, Tumba is covered with low subalpine vegetation and is made of metamorphic rock. Tumba is notable as the point where the national borders of Bulgaria, Greece and North Macedonia meet (tripoint). It is one of the southwesternmost point of Bulgaria and one of the southeasternmost point of North Macedonia.
Agkistro or alternatively Agistro (Greek: Άγκιστρο, pronounced [ˈaɟistɾo]), is a village in the Serres regional unit, Greece. The village is part of the municipality of Sintiki and hosts a population of 350, according to the 2021 census. The municipal unit has an area of 70.937 km2. Agistro lies near the Greek-Bulgarian border and 10 km from the border crossing of Promachonas. The village main tourist attraction is its steam bath complex, which dates from the Byzantine period.

Each year on August astrophotography hobbyists gather there due to the clear view of the night sky, a result of the villages high elevation. The municipal unit has an area of 47.306 km2. Ano Vrontou is situated in the northeastern part of the Vrontous mountains, at about 1060 m elevation. It borders on the Drama regional unit to the north and east. Ano Vrontou is 6 km northwest of Kato Vrontou, 12 km east of Achladochori, 13 km northeast of Oreini, 16 km southwest of Kato Nevrokopi and 26 km northeast of Serres.
Alistrati (Greek: Αλιστράτη) is a small town in Serres, situated at the borders of the regional unit of Drama and regional unit of Serres, in the Macedonia region of Greece. It has approximately 2,300 inhabitants, a town hall and a visitable cave. It is 20 km away from Drama and 45 km away from Serres. It is a listed traditional settlement and archaeologists had found something there. Since 2010 Alistrati is part of the municipality New Zichni, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 129.878 km2. Alistrati was built like an amphitheatrical inside a fascinating mountain groups on hills of the mountain range Menikio on an altitude of 325m. In Alistrati there exists rising and sloping streets. Sea-winds blowing from Thassos and Staymonikon Bay influence Alistrati day by day. Alistrati, a traditional community one of the biggest of the area Zichni-Fillida. It's been up-graded to municipality of Alistrati with the "Kapodistrias" law and included the villages :Agioxori, Skopia, Mandili, Lefkothea and R.S of Aggista.
Irakleia (Greek: Ηράκλεια, before 1926: Τζουμαγιά - Tzoumagia) is a municipality in the Serres regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece. Population 21,145 (2011). The seat of the municipality is the town of Irakleia, which was formerly known as "Lower Jumaya" (in Turkish: Barakli Cuma or Cuma-i Zir ("Lower Juma" in Ottoman Turkish); in Bulgarian: Долна Джумая, Dolna Dzhumaya; and in Aromanian: Giumaia di-Nghios). "Upper Dzhumaya" is modern Blagoevgrad, located in Bulgaria. In the Serres area, Aromanians settled in modern Irakleia during Ottoman times. Some Aromanians still live in the city today, with Bulgarian researcher Vasil Kanchov even saying that, as of when he visited the town, the 1250 Aromanians in Irakleia "were the wealthiest of all inhabitants".
Argilus or Argilos (Ancient Greek: Ἄργιλος) was a city of ancient Macedonia in the district Bisaltia, between Amphipolis and Bromiscus. It was founded by a colony from Andros. It appears from Herodotus to have been a little to the right of the route of the army of Xerxes I took in its invasion of Greece in the Greco-Persian Wars, and must therefore have been situated a little inland. Its territory must have been extended as far as the right bank of the Strymon, since Cerdylium, the mountain immediately opposite Amphipolis, belonged to Argilus. It was a member of the Delian League. During the Peloponnesian War, the Argilians readily joined the Spartan general Brasidas in his Chalcidian expedition in 424 BCE, on account of their jealousy of the important city of Amphipolis, which the Athenians had founded in their neighbourhood. The treaty establishing the Peace of Nicias, in 421 BCE, respected the neutrality of Argilus, Stageirus, Acanthus, Olynthus, Scolus, and Spartolus.
Banitsa (Greek: Καρυαί - Karié, Bulgarian/Macedonian: Баница, Banitsa or Banica, Ottoman Turkish: بانيچه Turkish Baniçe) is a deserted village in Serres regional unit, northern Greece. Its ruins are situated some 15 km north-east of the town of Serres, near the present-day village of Oreini, on the southern slopes of the Vrontous mountains. During the Ottoman period it had a Bulgarian population. The village was destroyed by the Greek Army during the Second Balkan War, and the population migrated to Bulgaria. Its inhabitants settled in Mehomiya, Bachevo, Nevrokop, Sveti Vrach, and Novo Delchevo.

Emmanouil Pappas (Greek: Εμμανουήλ Παππάς) is a village in the Serres regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it has been part of the municipality of Emmanouil Pappas. It is situated in the foothills of mountain Menoikio, 17 km east of Serres, and 101 km northeast of Thessaloniki. The former name of the village was Dovista (Δοβίστα in standard Greek or Ντουβίστα/Duvista in the local dialect). It was renamed Emmanouil Pappas in 1927, after the hero of the Greek War of Independence in Macedonia who was born there in 1773.

Chryso (Greek: Χρυσό) is a small town in Serres regional unit of Central Macedonia, Greece, located 12 km southeast of Serres. Since 2011 it is a municipal unit of the municipality of Emmanouil Pappas. It has a population of 1,006 inhabitants (2021). Until 1928 it was named Topoliani (Τοπόλιανη).
Η Βαμβακούσσα είναι χωριό της δημοτικής ενότητας Σκουτάρεως του δήμου Σερρών. Η κοινότητα έχει έκταση 8,430 τ.χλμ. και 15 μ. μέσο υψόμετρο. Κατοικείται κυρίως από Μικρασιάτες πρόσφυγες από την Προύσα όπου εγκαταστάθηκαν εδώ το 1922. Μετά τους Βαλκανικούς πολέμους και την ανταλλαγή πληθυσμών, η Επιτροπή Αποκατάστασης Προσφύγων (ΕΑΠ) εγκατέστησε 45 οικογένειες προσφύγων από την Βιθυνία
Τα Κουβούκλια ή και Κουβούκλιο είναι χωριό της δημοτικής ενότητας Σκουτάρεως του δήμου Σερρών. Βρίσκεται 15 χλμ. νοτιοδυτικά από την έδρα του Δήμου, τις Σέρρες. Η κοινότητα έχει έκταση 6,375 τ.χλμ. και 10 μ. μέσο υψόμετρο. Το όνομα του χωριού δόθηκε σε ανάμνηση του χωριού Κουβούκλια Προύσας της Μικράς Ασίας καθώς πολλοί Μικρασιάτες Κουβουκλιώτες που έφυγαν από τη Μικρά Ασία μετά τον ξεριζωμό τους εγκαταστάθηκαν στην περιοχή και κατοίκησαν τον οικισμό.
Το Ζευγολατιό είναι χωριό του νομού Σερρών με πληθυσμό 450 κατοίκους. Ανήκει στον Δήμο Ηρακλείας.
Τα Ίβηρα είναι χωριό του δήμου Βισαλτίας στον νομό Σερρών. Σύμφωνα με τα στοιχεία της απογραφής του 2011, ο πληθυσμός του ανέρχεται στους 615 κατοίκους.

Η Ευκαρπία (Βυζαντινά Ελληνικά: Κούτζη) είναι χωριό του Δήμου Βισαλτίας στο Νομό Σερρών. Βρίσκεται σε υψόμετρο 39 μέτρων από την επιφάνεια της θάλασσας και απέχει 32 χιλιόμετρα απο την έδρα του δήμου, την Νιγρίτα, 55 χιλιόμετρα από την πόλη των Σερρών και 110 χιλιόμετρα από την Θεσσαλονίκη. Έχει πληθυσμό 520 κατοίκους (Απογραφή 2011). Το μέρος είναι αρκετά εύφορο χάρη στην Σερραϊκή πεδιάδα, που είναι μία από τις μεγαλύτερες της Ελλάδος, την οποία διαρρέει ο Στρυμόνας, που και περνάει σε πολύ κοντινή απόσταση από το χωριό. Το προηγούμενο όνομά του ήταν Κούτσιος και από το 1920 ήταν αυτόνομη κοινότητα , η οποία μετονομάστηκε το 1927 σε Κοινότητα Ευκαρπίας. Το 1999 με το πρόγραμμα Καποδίστριας συνενώθηκε με άλλες κοινότητες της περιοχής, που αποτέλεσαν στη συνέχεια τα δημοτικά διαμερίσματα του Δήμου Τραγίλου. Με την εφαρμογή του προγράμματος Καλλικράτης το 2011 εντάχθηκε ως κοινότητα στο νέο δήμο Βισαλτίας. Ουσιαστικά, πρόκειται για το καινούργιο Καστρί, καθώς οι κάτοικοι του Καστρίου, μετακινούμενοι στην πεδιάδα εγκαταστάθηκαν στο σημείο, δημιουργώντας τον σύγχρονο οικισμό.
Το Καστανοχώρι (Βυζαντινά Ελληνικά: Αμουρμέη) είναι χωριό του Δήμου Βισαλτίας στον νομό Σερρών. Σύμφωνα με την απογραφή του 2011, ο πληθυσμός του ανέρχεται στους 122 κατοίκους. Εφημέριος του χωριού είναι ο Π. Χρυσόστομος Καδάς.

Το προηγούμενο (επίσημο) όνομά του ήταν Παλιότρος και υπαγόταν στην Κοινότητα Καστανοχωρίου μέχρι το 1928 οπότε και αποσπάστηκε ως αυτόνομη κοινότητα Το 1950 μετονομάστηκε σε Άγιος Δημήτριος σε Κοινότητα Αγίου Δημητρίου). Το 1999 με το πρόγραμμα Καποδίστριας συνενώθηκε με άλλες κοινότητες της περιοχής, που αποτέλεσαν στη συνέχεια τα δημοτικά διαμερίσματα, στον Δήμο Τραγίλου. Με την εφαρμογή του προγράμματος Καλλικράτης το 2011 εντάχθηκε στο νέο δήμο Βισαλτίας.
Nea Kerdylia (Greek: Νέα Κερδύλια) is a village in the municipality of Amphipolis. It is located on the national road Thessaloniki - Alexandroupolis and is 50 km away from Nigrita, 70 km from Serres. The village is named after Mount Kerdylion, which is part of the Kerdylion mountain range.

Tragilus or Tragilos (Ancient Greek: Τράγιλος), also known as Traelus or Trailos (Τράϊλος), or Tragila (Τράγιλα), was a town of Bisaltia, in ancient Macedonia. Tragilus is mentioned by Stephanus of Byzantium, as well as by epigraphic sources. It belonged to the Delian League since it appears in the Athens tribute register of 422/1 BCE. Tragilus's coins from the 5th century BCE, with the inscription «ΤΡΑΙ» or «ΤΡΑΙΛΙΟΝ», are also preserved. In addition, it is documented in the theorodokos list of Epidaurus of the year 360/59 BCE. William Smith states that this town is doubtless the same as Βράγιλος or Δράγιλος found in Hierocles among the towns of the first or consular Macedonia. In the Peutinger Table there is a place "Triulo" marked as 10 miles from Philippi, which is apparently a corruption of the name form "Traelio" similar to the coin inscriptions «ΤΡΑΙΛΙΟΝ».

Skoutari (Greek: Σκούταρι) is a village and a former municipality in the Serres regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Serres, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 90.159 km2. Population 4,666 (2021). The first villagers arrived from Minor Asia as refugees in October 1922. On 15 August 1924, the day of The Assumption of Mary into Heaven, refugees from Skoutari from Northern Thrace began, and finally settled in the region of today's village. That way the village took its name.

The Archaeological Museum of Amphipolis is a museum in Amphipolis, Central Macedonia, Greece. It is located in the archaeological site of ancient Amphipolis (a city founded in 437 BC), near River Strymon at close range of the Thessaloniki–Kavala national highway and within the walls of the ancient city itself. In the museum, finds from Amphipolis and its surroundings are exhibited. The excavations took place mainly in the period from 1956 to 1984, under the direction of the late archaeologist Dimitris Lazaridis. After his death (1985) his daughter, Calliope Lazaridis, continued the work until 1989.

Konstantinato (Greek: Κωνσταντινάτο) is a small town of 269 inhabitants (2021), part of the municipal unit of Serres, northern Greece. It is situated between the Belitsa and Strymon rivers. All inhabitants migrated from Konstantinatoi in Minor Asia during the exchange of populations in 1923 between Turkey and Greece. Konstantinatoi in Minor Asia was also known as Tsatal Agil (Turkish, meaning fork in the road). Konstantinatoi in Minor Asia had a Greek Orthodox Church dedicated to Saint John the Theologian whereas the current Konstantinato has a Greek Orthodox Church dedicated to Saint Panteleimon.
Myrcinus or Myrkinos (Ancient Greek: Μύρκινος or Μύρκιννος) was an ancient Greek city located in Macedonian Thrace, in the region of Edonis between the Strymon and the Nestos Rivers, on the left bank of the Strymon. It was within the territory of the Edonians, a Thracian tribe, and was founded as a polis by colonists from Miletus in 497 BCE. The colonists were led by Histiaios (already a Tyrant of Miletus), whom Darius had allowed to build a city in reward for his help. Its site offered great advantages to settlers, as it contained an abundant supply of timber for shipbuilding, as well as silver mines. Aristagoras retired to this place, and, soon after landing, perished before some Thracian town which he was besieging. Afterwards, it had fallen into the hands of the Edoni; but on the murder of Pittacus, chief of that people, it surrendered to Brasidas after he captured Amphipolis, Oesyme and Galepsus in 422 BCE. During the Byzantine Empire it was known as Doxompos (Δοξόμπος) or Doxompus (Δοξόμπους).
Pethelinos (Greek: Πεθελινός) is a small village in the Serres regional unit of Central Macedonia, Greece 22 km away from the town of Serres, and 2.5 km from the Strymon River. The village has 344 inhabitants (2021). It is part of the municipal unit Emmanouil Pappas municipality. The village has one church of Saint Nikolaos close to the village's square and one chapel of Prophet Elias, built on a hill just outside the village.
The Serres Municipal Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Serres, Greece.It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Panserraikos.The stadium holds 9,500, was built in 1926 and renovated numerous times. The record attendance of the stadium was on 25 June 1972, when 14,200 spectators watched Panserraikos 1–1 draw against Larissa for the Beta Ethniki 1971–72 season last match, a result that gave the chance to Panserraikos to get the promotion to Alpha Ethniki.

It belongs to the local community of Kastanoussa in the municipality of Sintiki. According to the 2021 census it has a population of 127 inhabitants.
Aidonochori (Greek: Αηδονοχώρι) is a village in the region of Serres, northern Greece. It belonged to the municipality of Tragilos until 2011, when the application of the Kallikratis Plan incorporated the entire municipality to the municipality of Visaltia. According to the 2021 Greek census, the village had 197 inhabitants.

The Pirinska Bistritsa or Mpístritsas (Bulgarian: Пиринска Бистрица, Greek: Μπίστριτσας) is a river in south-western Bulgaria and northern Greece, a left tributary of the Struma. The river is 53 km long; the last 7 km before its confluence with the Struma forms the border between Bulgaria and Greece. Pirinska Bistritsa drains the south-western sections of the Pirin mountain range and the northern sections of the Slavyanka mountain range.

Anatoli (Greek: Ανατολή) is a village and a community in the municipality of Sintiki, within the regional section of Serres, at the border with the neighbouring regional section of Kilkis. It was known as Anatolou (Ανατολού) prior to 1927. As a result of the Kallikratis plan of 2010, it belongs to the municipality of Sintiki. Prior to this date, it had been in the municipality of Kerkini. According to the 2021 census, it has a population of 252 inhabitants, the majority of whom have roots in the Greek disapora who came from areas of Pontus. According to the 1928 census, Anatolia is a purely refugee village with 31 refugee families of 108 people.
Metalla (Greek: Μέταλλα) is a village and former community in Serres regional unit, of Central Macedonia, located 21 km east of the city of Serres. Since the 2011 reform it belongs administratively to the municipality of Emmanouil Pappas. It has a population of 275 inhabitants. Until 1928 was named "Upper Nouska", later was renamed "Upper Daphnoudi" and finally received the current name "Metalla".

Βρίσκεται σε απόσταση 1 χλμ. νότια-νοτιοανατολικά από την Ηράκλεια Σερρών και 1,2 χλμ. ανατολικά από το Δασοχώρι Σερρών. Σύμφωνα με την απογραφή του 2021 ο οικισμός είναι ακατοίκητος.

The Sarakatsani Folklore Museum (Greek: Λαογραφικό Μουσείο Σαρακατσάνων) is a museum dedicated to the history and traditions of the Sarakatsani group native to northern Greek Macedonia. The museum was established in Serres, Central Macedonia, Greece in 1979. The present structure dates to 1997 and was purpose-built to house it.

Η Καλλιθέα, αρχικά γνωστή ως Μπαΐρ-Μαχαλά, είναι πρώην συνοικισμός και νυν συνοικία των Σερρών. Βρίσκεται σε ύψωμα βορειοδυτικά του κέντρου της πόλης, χωροθετημένη μεταξύ των οδών Παπαφωτίου, Αίνου, Ρούσβελτ, Σταμούλη και Παπακωνσταντίνου. Συνορεύει με τις συνοικίες Πανοράματος και Αγίου Παντελεήμονα. Η περιοχή έχει απεριόριστη και ανεμπόδιστη θέα προς την πόλη και την πεδιάδα των Σερρών.
Ο Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Νέας Ζίχνης ήταν σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός στον σημερινό Δήμο Νέας Ζίχνης της Περιφερειακής Ενότητας Σερρών, επί των σιδηροδρομικών γραμμών Θεσσαλονίκης - Αλεξανδρούπολης και Νέας Ζίχνης - Λιμένα Αμφίπολης. Βρισκόταν σε απόσταση 8 χλμ. νότια της Νέας Ζίχνης Σερρών, στο νοτιότερο σημείο της γραμμής Θεσσαλονίκης - Αλεξανδρούπολης. Ο σταθμός ήταν γνωστός και ως Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Μυρρίνης, από το όνομα του κοντινού οικισμού της Μυρρίνης Σερρών.
Ο Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός Χρυσού είναι πρώην σιδηροδρομικός σταθμός στον σημερινό Δήμο Εμμανουήλ Παππά της Περιφερειακής Ενότητας Σερρών, επί της σιδηροδρομικής γραμμής Θεσσαλονίκης - Αλεξανδρούπολης. Βρίσκεται σε απόσταση 3 χλμ. νότια του Χρυσού Σερρών.
